3  UNITED STATES / South Carolina / Re: Charleston? on: April 04, 2006 12:44:06 PM
Hi!  I'm in Charleston as well, I've been living here for about a year-and-a-half now.  I haven't had any luck at all finding good craft stores, really.  I've been to the store on King St. and I know about the Hancock's and the AC Moore in North Chuck, but that's about all I've found... I say we definitelt exchange tips here if anyone happens upon anything good!  Smiley

Thank you all so much!  I think I'm going to go order this stuff right now!  I can't wait to get some finished results!  Smiley
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Funky needle work on: March 28, 2006 10:38:45 AM
I'm about to start embroidery as well and I had a few questions.  I don't think I would have real problems with embroidering just lines, but what about solid areas like on this purse?

Is there any special trick to embroidering solid areas as well as things like those yellow dots?

Thank you all so much for the helpful replies!  Smiley  I'm super broke, so I wasn't sure how much stabilizer or a hoop would run me.  Do you reccomend any good sites where I could buy this stuff?  Also, I'm just assuming you use several strands of normal thread?
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: tank top embroidery? on: March 27, 2006 08:49:43 AM
Hi,  I've never hand-embroidered but I really want to.  This is probably a dumb question, but what exactly is stabilizer?  Can I just put three or four threads through a needle for the thickness and then embroider away?  I had thought I could maybe just use chalk or something that just washes off to draw on the design?  I feel like such a noob.  Sad
8  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: just a prototype.................would like feedback! on: March 24, 2006 06:23:03 AM
It makes me think of a layout for a large large scuplture.  Like the artists' size and space plotting and plans for the Sphinx or something of the like.  Does that make sense?  Either way, I like it.

This is a form of abstraction that I've never really seen before... and I like it!

Thank you all so very much!  Smiley  It's funny, because I try not to be very dramatic as a person, I'm very laid-back, but that hidden side of me tends to come out in my art I suppose.  I just love playing with line, and curves.  Even though none of my pieces are very wearable, I just love the... I suppose ephemeral nature isn't quite the right way of putting it?  All I know is I read A LOT of Piers Anthony and JRR Tolkein when I was little so that fantasy flair has still stuck with me.  Smiley
