2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / knitty's broadripple socks on: November 08, 2006 12:47:03 PM
I made these socks for my wool-allergic mother a while ago.  I thought they were pretty simple, and the cotton yarn (Cascade Fixations)  makes them light enough to knit another pair for my mother-in-law in Texas.
I was a little dismayed that even though the balls of yarn were in the same dyelot, the socks didn't turn out quite the same.  It's alright though because it saved me from having to knit the same thing twice.

3  COOKING / Dessert / mocha brownies on: November 08, 2006 08:49:21 AM

I made these for my dad for his birthday.  They are coffee brownies topped with meringue cookies.

First, I made plain vanilla meringue cookies http://www.inmamaskitchen.com/RECIPES/RECIPES/Cookies/meringuecookies.html
and instead of dropping them onto the baking sheet, I used a pastry bag so they resembled whip cream, and topped with cinnamon before baking.

Then, I added:
2 tbs finely ground (turkish setting) coffee
 1 tbs cinnamon
 1 extra tbs oil
to a brownie mix

Before the brownies were done baking, I added the meringue cookies on top and let them bake on for just a few minutes so they would stick.

They were super tasty!  And made an excellent gift.  I mailed a few out to friends and they survived the postal system as well.
