1  COOKING / Dessert / Squirt Turtle Cupcakes on: September 25, 2011 01:11:52 PM
I saw these cupcakes on Pinterest and knew I had to make them.  It was time consuming to make the turtles out of the gummy candy but they still turned out decent.  Smiley

Here's the directions I followed to make the cupcakes:

I ran out of gummy candy and had a few plain cupcakes...

4  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Butterick B4669 Corset style top on: October 04, 2008 07:41:46 PM
I meant to post this a long time ago but Ive been lazy. I made this top last year when I went as a pirate for Halloween. The pattern calls it a corset but I don't really think it's anything like a corset. Anyways....I picked out the pattern, bought the fabric and got started on it all within a week of a Halloween. Not something I would ever do again. Having only 5 evenings to work on a whole costume didnt work out so well. I ran out of time to make boot covers so I had to improvise instead.  Undecided Also I bought the wrong size pattern!!!! Angry  I bought the larger sizes and and I had to use the smallest of the larger sizes. It didn't fit as well as it should have. Guess I'll pay attention to what I'm buying next time!

I chose View D because I liked that all the pieces would lace up together.  I did leave off the pleated peplum because Pirates dont wear skirt thingys!!!

It took me forever to pick out fabric. I decided to go with black brocade because I was afraid of buying some bright pretty fabric and messing it up. It has a dragon design in black on the fabric and I lined it in black. I used bright blue ribbons to lace it up because I liked the idea of having some bright color to it.  Smiley

A few days before Halloween I searched the internet trying to figure out what to do about the eyelets. I came to the conclusion that hand sewing the eyelets would be the best idea but I was pretty sure I couldnt hand sew 86 eyelets in two days. I had to finish working on other parts of my costume.  Instead I used a store bought junky eyelet punching thingy.  Sad I dont remember what they are actually called. I went to the leather section of the craft store and bought some eyelets because the ones in that section were a bit sturdier than the ones in the fabric section. I still ended up using both kinds. At the end of the day the eyelets from the leather section of the craft store held up while the flimsy ones I got in the fabric section started falling out. I put the eyelets in the night before Halloween. My hands hurt from punching 86 of those things into the fabric.

I think if I made this pattern again I'd buy the right size and consider doing something different about the eyelets!!  Smiley

Oh yeah, one more thing. I am such a nerd. I wore this to work for Halloween last year and I laced the front two pieces upside down. I kept thinking it looked odd.  Smiley I doubt anyone noticed. The lacing doesn't look pretty right now because I pulled it all out to correct it but didn't feel like making the ribbon look nice.  Smiley
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Heart-shaped box (nirvana related) on: April 04, 2006 04:22:24 PM
So I bought a heart shaped box and put my collage scraps to use.  I'm not quite finished with it yet.  I need to fix all the brown spots that are showing.

Top of the lid.  I don't like it.  I think I need to add something to it.

Inside the top of the lid.  I used nirvana sheet music to line it.

My favorite part is the inside of the box.  I lined it with sheet music, a nirvana interview and half a picture of Kurt.  I like the way it looks.

I haven't decided what I'm going to do with this yet.  Just something random I wanted to make.

6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / simple earrings and stuff on: April 04, 2006 04:14:37 PM
Here are some simple earrings and a bracelet.  Nothing fancy because that's the way I am.  I have a ton of beads and I'm slowly using them up.  I never plan out what I'm making I just start adding beads until I'm done.

I bought these black and silver moon beads that I really really like.  I'm just not happy with the bracelet so I'm taking it apart and starting over.

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / T-shirt --> Hoodie on: March 24, 2006 07:59:49 PM
I wanted to turn a t-shirt into a hoodie for a long time now and I finally got around to it.  This is my first time reconstructing a shirt.  It's my first time making a piece of clothing for myself!!  My sewing isn't to awesome but from far away it looks pretty good.

My SOAD flagboy shirt that I cut up.  Not a very pretty pic.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b391/spidersintune/Hoodie/flagboyhoodie.jpg

I lined the hood with this black soft stuff....yeah... I can't remember what it was called.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b391/spidersintune/Hoodie/blackfurhood1.jpg

I lined to inside of the pocket with it too.  I like the way it feels. Wink

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b391/spidersintune/Hoodie/pocketlining1.jpg

This was the best pic I could take while wearing it.

Now through trial and error I can make a better hoodie next time.  A zipper would be nice.
