I'm in St. John's!
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: 2008 What do I make for... thread. on: December 14, 2008 12:18:51 PM
So, I've been over the whole boyfriend situation before. But again... he is going to school halfway across the country but we will both be home for Christmas. I want to make him some kind of calendar but I can't figure out how.
I started the jar of 365 things (not my idea, found somewhere on here)... with just random quotes and proverbs and fortunes and stuff but I am having a really tough time.
I don't really just want to make a calendar with pictures of us either. I would like it to be a bit more personal.
Any ideas?

I'm starting to freak out a little because I have yet to figure out what to make/buy for my bf.
He's 18 and is going to school halfway across the country from me but we'll both be going home from Christmas.
His budget is a lot larger than mine so I have to get creative.
He's very open to anything I give him but it's difficult when you're giving to someone who already has everything. He buys whatever he needs.
I am stuck Sad

Well, tell us your crafts, hon! We need to know what you're capable of!   Undecided

Otherwise, I would say boxes of homecooked goodies, a promise package promising a years worth of letters or postcards (everyone loves getting mail), some framed pics of the two of you, a small flipbook of pictures - things that will remind him of home or of you!   Cool

tell you my crafts...
I can't sew, I can knit but I am slow. By paper making skills aren't so bad, ummm, kind of a bit of everything but not THAT much of anything.
He came to visit me a while ago and when he saw my fridge magnets he complained about not having any... so I will be making him a set of those, most likely words.
I am thinking of stenciling a pillow case
I want to make some kind of calendar. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to go about it. I'd like to make it some kind of countdown about seeing each other related things but I don't know the dates of when we will.
I found a DVD set of Audrey Hepburn movies which I think I will buy, he's a huge fan.
So that's about as far as my ideas go.

So I've only cracked down on making my list and trying to plan things out in the last week. It's a wonderful way of avoiding studying. The list still needs quite a bit of help but this is it so far.
Boyfriend
- Magnets, he's in a dorm room and his fridge is bare so I was thinking of making word magnets and then some other random images.
- Etched glasses or mugs - also having to do with the dorm room, I was going to put some random movie quotes on them
- Stenciled pillow case - we're halfway across the country away and I miss sleeping with him terribly so I was thinking of either making him a pillowcase with a quote from the wizard of oz on it (his favorite movie) or some kind of matching pillow case so we could each have one
- Jar of 365 things - yeah, this was stolen, but I thought it would be nice since we're so far apart.
- Boxers/PJs - probably some kind of stencil also? I have no idea
.... I've yet to figure out the main gift though, whether purchased or homemade. I can't sew... which kind of puts a damper on things... and my knitting is very slow.

Christina - Sister
- University clothes (I just started and was thinking of buying her a sweater)
- Ugly doll
- Something else?

Cole - 5yrs old - Father's girlfriend's son who just moved in
This kid is a sweetheart so I'm excited about being able to craft for him for christmas.
- Cool bag for toys
- Homemade Coloring Book
- Finger puppets?

Mom
Impossible to satisfy when it comes to gift giving...  I'm probably just going to buy what she wants
- Slippers
- Pajamas

Dad
He's not hard to please... but figuring out what to buy/make is difficult. He doesn't do very much
- Something from the University
- something else?

Tracy - Dad's girlfriend.. who has moved in since I've been gone
I have absolutely no idea what to do for this one. I'm not aiming at something very personal but I still have to give her something. She's very sweet... I just don't know how to approach it

Friends
- Homemade Coloring Book
- Homemade Crayons
I am going to take pictures of all of us together for the coloring books and I am going to buy packs of 8 crayons and peel the labels off and replace them with my own labels made from sticker paper.
6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Bottle Cap Necktie? on: June 30, 2008 03:55:29 PM
So I want to make a bottle opener in the back of a necktie for my boyfriend but have no idea how I would go about doing so. Any ideas?
7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: Boyfriend Carepackage on: June 30, 2008 03:15:13 PM
So this is what I'm thinking... I want it to be more personal than practical.
- so... will record a message from me on a digital camera... put it on a cheap memory stick.. he'll have computer access for the first couple days
- I want to take a pad of post its and write random messages on them and slip them into the pockets of all his clothes and whatnot to find at random
- ... I want to stick a calling card in his wallet with a note saying there's no excuse not to call me
- AND I want to stencil a tee shirt... with some kind of insider and stick it in his bag without him noticing... I'm thinking from Juno:

Juno MacGuff: I think I'm in love with you.
Paulie Bleeker: You mean as friends?
Juno MacGuff: No... I mean for real. 'Cause you're, like, the coolest person I've ever met,  and you don't even have to try, you know...
Paulie Bleeker: I try really hard, actually
8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Boyfriend Carepackage on: June 29, 2008 12:03:44 PM
So my boyfriend is going on a three week pilgriamage through Australia in a week. He'll only be bringing a large backpack but I want to secretly pack in a little something. It won't be able to be very big at all but I'd still like to send him off with something special.
He won't have access to much technology although I think I will record a video message from me and put it on a USB stick for him to listen to if he comes across a computer.
I can't put in any food or anything like that because it'll be such a small space and food isn't what I'm aiming at.
Any bright ideas?
