While in a thrift store last week I came across a Hawaiian floral print woman's skirt. Unfortunately it was a size 1/2 too small for me, but the more I looked at it the more I thought it would be terrific for a dress for the baby.

 I had already cut it apart when I realized I didn't take a before photo. Oops.
 It started life as an above the knee length woman's size 10 skirt, double layered of ruffles with a zipper in the back. The fabric has a really nice hand. Its a cotton with 3% Lycra so it has a wee bit of stretch. I made Quinn the dress and headband. Then I decided to whip up a little pair of white bloomers for her to wear under it. There is still a bit more of the red floral fabric. I think I will make her a little skirt with a stretch band at the top made from knit. The skirt will be for next year. She should be able to wear the dress next year as a top. Quinn is around 14 lbs, will be 5 months tomorrow and wears about a 3-6 month or so. Depends on the outfit, just like _all_ women's clothing. :^/
 Its my first try at shirring fabric. It went pretty well. My rows could have been a WHOLE lot more even, but thankfully the technique is very forgiving. I didn't steam iron the shirring yet, either. That will help a bit. I think I need to play with the bobbin settings to get a better stitch with the elastic thread. I want to make a couple of dresses for myself, and the tension will definitely need more, ahem, strength. ;^)

OK so my little one (4 months) has a plethora of onesies. I am just not "into" the onesie and pants look for my babies (the other which is 15...years. lol). So when I found a blogger talking about making a onesie into a dress or adding a skirt, etc. I had a lightbulb moment.

Here is the first completed project. I went out Saturday with a bag of onesies determined to get a few pieces of fabric to convert them into dresses. For less than $8 I was able to get fabric to convert 4 onesies, plus make headbands and have some coordinating fabric to use to do on bloomers or some such. I have a stash that I can use to supplement and pop in contracting fabric and trims, etc. which is what I did with the raspberry fabric here.




So here is Ms.Q struttin her new outfit. She was watching Ne Hao Kai Lan and super tired ...thus the silly expression and quick snapshot. Nicer pic to come later. The skirt has two tiers and a raspberry bias cut border on the bottom . That same raspberry fabric was used to make the bloomer. Headband from coordinating fabric to skirt and flowers made from once again, the raspberry fabric which was in my stash.
Hopefully tonight I can knock at at least two of the others if not all three, if the teething will let the poor peanut sleep!

Everytime we go to the store, my kiddo is asking for a purse here, bag there, etc. After snuffling about on this board about purses and bags, I thought I would go dig through my box of old jeans. I have been collecting jeans and jean fabric bits and pieces for making a jeans scrappy quilt to keep in my van for picnicing and general use.
