41  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Craft trade /exchange (not swap)??? Does this exist??? on: July 05, 2006 12:25:48 AM
Thanx for the replies, everybody. I am new to craftster and to swapping, so this was really helpful! In the mean time I also found a site where people can exchange stuff, and art/craft is one of the categories. The site is called 'Gimme your stuff' and although it is not exactly the thing I was looking for, I will give it a go.

cheers, Rineke
42  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / handbag from a children's dress on: July 04, 2006 03:07:47 AM

I'm not at all sure whether the posting of the picture works, but let's see!

I made this bag from a handmade-by-me bib dress that both my daughters have worn. I moved the straps, cut the bottom and wrinkled it - after that I sew it together. Most of the architecture of the dress is intact - the bib is now the flap. Oh and I sew lining into it. What do you think?

43  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Craft trade /exchange (not swap)??? Does this exist??? on: July 04, 2006 01:51:28 AM
Hi everybody,

Inspired by a post on whip-up, I wonder whether anybody in the craft world does exchanges in stead of swaps or selling. What I mean is that I would like to exchange homemade craft items for others, but not like a swap. Although I like the idea of swaps, often having a theme, and often with the purpose of learning new techniques, I will probably never engange in one, since I am afraid I will not finish on time, or the result will be rotten...

Rather I would like to exchange items that will come as no surprise - that is on a 'what you see is what you get' basis - the exchangers having arranged beforehand, and based on descriptions and pictures, what they will swap. Also, I would rather receive something in a craft technique I do not master. I guess it would be like selling your stuff on etsy and then buying something else on etsy for that money, but then without the money involved. I put on an 'exchange shadow blog' to my blog (to date only one item up for exchange, though, do not expect too much...), but the problem with that is that the people visiting my blog are crocheters/knitters like me. And I would like to exchange with paper crafters, soap makers, button makers etc.!

So the question is: Does anybody do this? Is there a place on the net where you can go and arrange this? Is there a web ring? Could something like this be done on craftster?

Rineke
