21  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Hemp shoes / sandals - How to make/where to buy? on: January 10, 2007 02:28:48 PM
I saw these on display in a hemp shop in Eumundi one day but the shop owners said they weren't for sale. I finally found them on the internet but none of the websites that sell them are working or in business any longer!!!

Does anyone know where I can buy these online or on the Sunshine Coast/Brisbane? If not, does anyone know how I'd make them? I've already seen the post for crocheted hemp sandals by Lydia the Strange but I can't crochet.

22  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Denim Jeans + Bedsheet + patches = Long Hippie Skirt on: January 09, 2007 08:59:03 PM
These jeans were completely falling apart and the knees ripped every time I sat down. I didn't want to chuck them out so I decided to turn them into a skirt for practical purposes- as a skirt they're less tight so don't rip as easily. Plus, when I cut them open they were easier to patch. I patched the knees using the directions from a seventies Bernina manual. I had a lot of trouble with the arse (of the jeans/skirt!) which will never quite sit quite right now. Ah well, what are ya gonna do?

Eh, the pictures aren't great- I was tryna take a picture of my butt in the mirror and the flash was getting the way... Wink I have since learned to use the timer on my camera (yey!).

23  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Felt Name Book/Photo Album (Plumpkin's Idea with a Twist!)... IMAGE HEEEEAVY on: January 09, 2007 05:59:37 PM
This took me and my boyfriend forever and a day to make. It was for his niece, Siani's 1st Birthday. Thanks for the idea, Plumpkin! It was Paul's idea to add the photos. It includes her middle and last name, too. We sewed the words onto the pages to make it a bit more educational. We put a few Australian themes in there because, well, we're Aussies. We had to photoshop the photos a bit, and air brush bits because some of the photos weren't great and we couldn't tell her parents why we wanted the photos!  Wink

S is for Sunflower (and sister)

I is for Icecream

A is for Alphabetti Spaghetti (thanks to Jasmin, from my old workplace, for helping me with that idea!) You might be able to see 'Alphabetti Spaghetti' sewn into the edge of the 'bowl'.

N is for Nanna (and Nettie). It was Paul's idea to put her nanna's face there. He was worried about her reaction because she's doesn't look like that, really. He had to airbrush her fringe off the photo before we printed it and ironed it onto some felt.

I is for Island (Siani and her dad)

J is for Jelly (I love this one because J was the hardest one to come up with a good idea for).

E is for Echidna

W is for Whale (Siani and her sister). That one was a bit hard to cut/sew around because of the type of fabric I ironed the photo on to.

E is for Emu

L is for Leaves (Siani and Mum)

The last page with her surname.

And Paulie arranging one of the pages (we originally had 'Crocodile Hunter' for the C in Patricia, then we found out her middle name is Jewel, not Patricia! Oops!)

Oh, and the spine!

Pffffewww!

24  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects / My First T-Shirt! Frank Zappa... on: January 08, 2007 06:35:13 PM
It turned out a bit crappy cos I didn't cut right to the edge of the design. I was afraid it would bleed but my boobs cracked the image anyway and the ink hasn't run at all when I've washed the t-shirt. I'm not sure if I'm crooked or the design. Oh well.

It says Why Don't They Play Frank Zappa's Stuff on the Radio?
