Great job, especially for your first project. I really like that print, and the skirt looks great. Well done.

Oh, haha, I thought that was "tea-length".

Haha, of COURSE I know all about Dirty Dancing! I totally love that movie. The soundtrack is awesome too.

Thanks for all the love y'all. I'm 18 years old, by the way, and I agree that every woman needs a little black dress, hehe.

If you can't find the pattern for exactly the dress you want, you could probably find a shirt pattern to use for the bodice and attach the swing skirt. I'm not sure what a T dress is, so I can't help you find a pattern, but I'd suggest looking through the simplicity site too. Their stuff is great for beginning sewers.

I made this dress back in grade ten for a semi-formal, but I lost weight after that, so I've never worn it since. It was strapless then, and I wore it with a string of pearls and long white gloves. I pulled it out the other day and tried to alter it to fit me now. I think I actually did more damage than good though. That tulle overlay makes everything impossible. Oh well, I added a nice strap to keep things up, and now I love it. And I found I can dress it up with fun accessories of just about any colour to hide my poor sewing job and altering attempts. Here's the dress on its own-

And here it is with awesome sashes, earrings, etc. I like the hot pink look the best. It's so much fun-

And the swing skirt in action-

Yay. Details: the dress is crepe-back satin with a glittery tulle overlay. It closes with a zipper in the back. I made it without a pattern (shame on me) three days before the dance (more shame on me). I love it though, and I wish I could wear it all the time!

Thanks for looking!

I made this cute little purse out of the box from an old Cinderella tape. It's lined with material from an old pillowcase and decorated with some old ribbon and lace I had lying around.

Inside-

There's only enough room for the essentials- phone, keys, duck-tape wallet. It's so cool though, and it was really easy to make. Also, it didn't cost me a penny!

Haha, that's great. Yay for public transport.
269  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Best pin-cushion ever! on: March 15, 2006 12:49:22 PM
Yeah, I know they dull faster in a cushion, but they drive me crazy faster when I keep them in a box. I'd pretty much only use the cushion when I'm working on a project. When I'm done, I'll put all the pins away in the box. I used to use a magnet, but it magnatized all my pins! They'd all stick together and to my machine and stuff. It was an even bigger pain.

And yeah, haha, it is fun to stick them in!

Your could sew some ribbon to the bottom, on the hem. That'd look pretty if it was the same colour as the sash you're going to put on, or something that matches. Good luck.
