1  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Mini Vegan Lemon Meringues on: August 22, 2009 08:42:39 PM
Oh sugar...how I love thee...

Made these for a friends birthday party, everything had to be pie themed.
Pretty happy with how these came out!
The vegan meringue mix is by "Angel Foods" it's a packet mix and it tastes like the real thing, amazing! Then there's a layer of soy-a-too cream, the lemon jelly bit is a packet mix (!? such a good find, in the cooking section) and the base is crushed up "nice" biccies with marg.

2  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Vegan Caramels! on: August 20, 2009 05:21:20 PM
I have been eating too much sugar since I discovered how to make caramel vegan!?!!

This stuff is addictive and tastes like a real caramel, nut, choccy bar! My teeth hurt!

Yum!!

Stuff you need:

1 cup Nutterlex
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 cups soy milk
1/2 cup glucose syrup
1/2 cup malt syrup

Put it all in a DEEP saucepan and cook on medium heat still it gets real fluffy and huge, stir stir stir...make sure it doesn't burn, watch the consistency and colour and you'll see it change and get thick. You will need to make sure it gets really hot. I test to see if it's ready by popping a little spoonful into the fridge/freezer and see whether it sets. The longer you cook the harder it'll set. I have burnt my finger and tongue making this by being inpatient, please be careful!

Take off heat and carefully pour onto a tray lined with baking paper.

Add stuff to it like crushed nuts and melted vegan choccy. Once I added crushed nuts, a layer of chocolate whipped cream and then rolled it up, cut into pieces and dipped into vegan chocolate, yum! I got chocolate everywhere haha! This would also be an amazing caramel sauce for icecream!

Have fun making this, it's addictive!!!

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / pantry party - strawberry apron on: March 09, 2008 09:56:20 PM
this one was a quickie i pulled off in an hour before i had to go to the party. i had put together a breakfast box which included: tea, coffee, honey, strawberry jam, nutteller and shake and pour pancakes...but the kit seemed a little empty without something crafted. so left over material and 1 hour later:

my first time sewing ruffles - it's not perfect but it was fun!! i used this awesome tutorial:
http://thelongestyear.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/02/post.html

the photos also reflect my hurriedness!? i wish i had a shot of it all set up as the gift. we had unexpected guests drop by right as i was finishing it off and getting dressed!

she wore it all afternoon at the kitchen tea (again no photos...sorry!)

10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / i love...hat, mittens, wrap - with instructions. on: March 09, 2008 09:14:21 PM
my friends are in due to have their baby in 6 days! eee! couldn't contain my excitement so yesterday i made these:

muslin wrap with flannel trim, little hat and mittens:

we were talking about swaddling your baby and weren't sure how, so i looked it up and made them a guide:

just to show the size of the wrap:

first time sewing with muslin, it was quite easy, i only had one pull. the hat design i copied from rookiemums.com and the instructions i just got a gist of how to do my reading a little (i hope it's right!). it's so hot here at the moment so the wrap is only light. how cute is the flannel!!

x laura

ps just realised how messy my instructions look, i did it pretty quick, perhaps i'll re-write it.
