11  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: Vegan peanut butter banana cream pie! on: May 28, 2009 01:51:25 AM

I have been using a lot of Soyatoo lately (see puddin' pie post). It is nice with hot cocoa and desserts. It just is rather melty at times. I have heard you can mix in soy milk powder to make it thicker but have not tried that yet.

Yay!! I add in some icing sugar and vanilla essence and whipp it for ages (as I would if I was using cows cream) works well especially after leaving it in the fridge over night.

I made a lemon pie this week so yum!!! everyone make pie!!!

my friend is having a birthday pie party this Sunday, everything is in pie form, going to be vegan and so awesome.

i did some the other day and worked a treat. kind of a handy little size cos you don't have to cut into a a4 sheet and feel like you're wasteing the rest of the page.

have fun!

Blueandredcows - I feel the same!! hahaha soap soap soap!? this tasted as good as it looks too.

schnerby - there is a great website that i order vegan goodies from called www.veganessentials.com i live in australia and often its trickey to get unusual ingredients. if you ever would eat vegan cream, and hey why not? treat yourself! there is also a good recipe floating around that uses cornflour.

toxic-onyx - Smiley totally, not weird. to make this i looked up a stack of recipes online and then combined the ones i liked/sounded easy, then looked in the cupboard and modified to what i had. haha, i'm not good at following rules...
basically...the base is a pack of crushed up sweet biccies, marg, golden syrup, blended and pressed into pie dish, pop into the fridge (or bake it a little, i think i did)

the inside is a pack agar agar (gelatine free jelly made of seaweed, cheap too!) with a little hot water, dissolve, blend with 5 or 6 bananas, a few table spoons of rice malt  (alternately you could use sugar) about 1/4 or more of crunchy peanut butter. i generally taste test as i go and don't really follow measurements and things more checking textures to make sure it'll set. the agar agar works a treat so if you think it looks too runny it'll set a bit.

the top as i mentioned is "soyatoo" cream - new love! whipped and topped with melted choccy.
