Just a little deer that used to be a vintage playing card modpodged onto a blank pendant found at the thrift store. I poured a little resin on it to make it shiny and adhered little beads and a plastic flower to it while it was curing. I'm really happy with it cause it's so cute. Comments please...

3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Shadowbox for my moms birthday (Image HEAVY!!) on: July 04, 2008 02:35:50 PM
I made this for my moms bday in May. I took four shadowboxes from the dollartree and glued them together. I took my trusty modpodge and glued strips of dictionary pages to make the frame one piece. The background in the pictures is also dictionary pages painted with watercolor and then ripped to pieces. I painted each picture of my mom with a wash of watercolor and added some dried flower and other bits and pieces. Here name is made with scrabble pieces with the beginning of dictionary chapter letters. My mom loves to read so I felt the dictionary pages where fitting. Comments please  Grin.

4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Is this plaster of paris safe for my kid??? on: May 25, 2008 10:59:21 AM

I picked this brand new box of plaster of paris up at the thrift store the other day. I just read the back of it and although it says that hand prints can be made with it it
also says that:

"WARNING: When mixed with water plaster hardens and becomes hot. Do not submerge any body parts into the plaster as severe burns may result. When plaster is being mixed, dust may cause irritation to eyes, nose, throat or upper respiratory system. If eye contact occurs, flush particles from eye with water. Do not take internally. Call a physician immediate if ingested. Children should not use this product except under adult supervision. Warning: This product contains crystalline silica, known to the state of California to cause cancer."

I remember using plaster of paris as a kid to make handprint molds but this has kind of got me shook up about using it. Would they suggest that you could use it to for hand prints if it was going to burn? Maybe they mean submerging for a long period of time? THOUGHTS? Thanks!

I also found this website talking about it. I do not think that the guy used it but he too found it ironic that they would say you could use it for handprints although it may burn etc.  (Scroll down to see it)

9  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Ideas for Trick or Trunk PLEASE HELP! on: October 07, 2007 02:20:26 PM
Hi, I was hoping that all you lovely craftsters could help me come up with some ideas for Trick or Trunk at my church. The idea is that you decorate the trunk of your car/truck and hand out candy from it. I am going to be using my husbands regular size Ford F-150. The regulations are you can't use anything "scary" as in no ghosts, ghouls, devils, etc. That being said I am leaning towards a sort of candy land theme. I plain on making a candy tree where the candy is attached to the tree with clothes pins and the kids can take it off. I also plan on making a big paper mache pumpkin and painting lots of regular pumpkins different coolers. The colors I am going to use are black, white, purple, and orange. My husband suggested we make it so the kids can climb on the truck and then slide off by attaching a old swing set slide. I like the idea but we don't have a slide. Any ideas to make it interactive would be cool. Also please let me know any decorating ideas you may have. Thanks so much!
