1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / baby blanket - wool or cotton? on: June 15, 2008 12:32:58 PM
Hi everybody!

I am planning out a baby blanket for a friend of mine who is due in late October. My question is this - is wool or cotton better for a baby blanket?

I want something warm but I am worried that a baby's skin would be irritated by wool. Cotton seems like a good second choice but the blanket won't be as warm and I don't like knitting with it because it's not flexible like wool.

And I was thinking either Knit Picks Swish worsted (superwash merino) or Shine worsted (cotton and modal).

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Hey guys! This is my first post (but I'm a long time lurker). This isn't exactly my best creation but doggone it, I'm so proud of it for some reason.

What do you think?

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Woodland shawl help please! on: April 15, 2008 08:45:05 PM
Have anyone made this?

http://thriftyknitter.com/?p=219

I think it is soooo beautiful. But I am having some big problems with it.

I only have a single skein of yarn so I'm trying her scarf modification. So instead of casting on 89 stitches, I'm casting on 41.

Here's my problem. I have too many stitches left over! When it says "repeat from * to end" doesn't that mean that I'm supposed to finish the entire pattern inside those * thingies?

After I knit the first row
Row 1 (RS): P2, YO, K1, YO, P2, *SKP, K3, K2tog, P2, YO, K1, YO, P2, repeat from * to end.
I have 6 stitches left over. Obviously that's going to mess up the whole lace pattern, right?

I have frogged and tried again about 10 times so far tonight and I've tried to recalculate the number of stitches I'm casting on but that isn't working either. I've searched for pattern errata or anyone else having problems and I seem to be the only one. I'm starting to go mad from it.

I know I can just find another lace pattern but I really love this one. Can anyone help me please? Thank you!
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Bad Penny and bamboo yarn? on: May 25, 2007 09:30:56 AM
So, I would like to knit this

http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring04/PATTbadpenny.html

And I would like to use a bamboo yarn blend to do it. I've never used bamboo yarn before. Can it work as a substitute for a cotton yarn?

What do you guys think of bamboo yarn in general? Any recommendations?

Thanks!
