1  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects / Giraffe Linoprints on: August 23, 2008 03:47:38 AM
4 friends had babies this month, and I need to send gifts!  So I made a Giraffe linocut.  I made 10 prints last night.  I plan to frame them and send them as gifts.  I hope they like them.

What do you think?
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / Garden Car for Play on: May 02, 2008 10:03:53 AM
I had this idea for imaginative play areas in our yard for the kids to play in.  But also that fit in with the landscaping and were fun!  So, I bought some pressure treated plywood and some paints, ordered a playground steering wheel, and bought a switch at the home store.  With a little help from my husband and his jig saw, I created this VW bug in our garden for the kids to play with!
Front - screwed into our trees.  It doesn't look level in this pic, but it is.

Back(inside the car) - working steering wheel and switches.  Again, it is actually level.

Thanks for looking!  All questions and comments welcome!
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Pop Art Bathroom 4 Kidz on: February 07, 2008 12:26:19 PM
My Kids Bathroom Redo:

This is how the bathroom has looked since we moved in back in May 2006.  Williamsburg blue wallpaper and florals.  Plus the floor was partially carpeted- yucky in a bathroom, IMO.  Probably has been this way since 1988.  Not the cute bathroom I envisioned for my kids.

I stripped the wallpaper and pulled out the carpet back in November.  At the end of November my parents came to visit for Thanksgiving, and I put my Dad to work!  He and I ripped out the old tile and installed the new tile floor.  It took more days than I planned- but we got it done.  I also made my Dad install the new lighting.  Then I primed and painted the walls and trim (I had a friend install the crown moldings).  Finally, I primed and painted the cabinets- 3 coats of black semi-gloss and new hardware.  All of this over 2 months time, because I can only work when the baby is sleeping and my daughter is in school!  Finally, I had my husband hang the towel bars, and I put up the cool artwork (that I bought from an Etsy artist- gotta support fellow craftsters).  I am so proud of this bathroom.  But, honestly- I will never do it again!!!!!

4  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / lined baby pants on: November 17, 2007 07:43:52 AM
I made these, thanks to Dooney  Grin.  Those sock monkey pants inspired me.  I lined them with fleece receiving blankets that we no longer have a use for.  Her instructions were tip-top!  So simple, I made these in 30 minutes.

The lining

The baby - he didn't want to look at me

5  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Baby Bunting on: November 11, 2007 07:20:54 AM
I just finished making Andrew's bunting!  It took me over a week because I worked on it so sporadically.  It is warm and fuzzy fleece.

It is made from a Kwik Sew pattern, size 6-12 months, and honestly, it is very big!  I would say more like 12-18 months.  But he can still wear it.  Sewing the lycra binding around the edges was a huge PITA.  I hate sewing lycra!  But overall, I'm happy with it.  I'm guessing he will probably fit in it next winter too  Wink.
6  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Zebra Stripe Nursery on: April 02, 2007 05:24:50 PM
WoooHoooo!  I finally finished the nursery!  The room was empty and beige before I started.  We painted the walls a lovely aqua blue.  I wish I could say I made the crib bedding and window treatments, but I actually had those made for my first baby because I was too much of an emotional basket case during my first pregnancy to sew anything of consequence.  I designed them, and had someone else do the making...

I'm proud to say that I DID refinish the dresser.  It was an old piece that I had since college.  I painted it a bright aqua and put new hardware on it.  And, I refurbished old picture frames to match- and filled them with pages from a Dr. Seuss book.

The cross stitch above the couch was made by my husband's mother when she was pregnant with him.  The collage above the crib was made by me...

Thanks for looking!
7  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Matisse Inspired Collage on: March 29, 2007 09:59:35 AM
I've been searching for art for over the baby's crib for a couple of months and couldn't find what I wanted.  The baby is due in 2 weeks and I'm tired of looking!  I finally decided just to take some time and work on something.

I love Matisse's gouache cut outs.  They are simple and beautiful.  I was inspired to create a cut out collage for our son's room.  I didn't use gouache, though.  Card stock and translucent paper and my scissors...

Comments?

Above the crib...

The other blank wall will have his name on it.
8  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Simple Flannel Baby Quilt on: March 26, 2007 12:40:43 PM
So, I made this quilt for my baby boy (Due April 17th).  I had made a similar one for my daughter when she was born, and decided my son would need one too.  I used flannel scraps from my stash, plus some remnants I picked up.  The back is a plaid flannel that I had tons of (because I bought it for $1.00 a yard at one point).  It matches the nursery, which is aqua blue.

I kept it very simple, so it was a 2 evening project.
Here is the front:

And the back folded over

It is crib size- about 3 x 4 feet.
9  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Girly Room for my Little Girl on: February 22, 2007 08:05:20 AM
I am just about finished redecorating my 3-year-old's room.  It was basically just a beige room before we did it up.  She picked out the paint and bedding.  My Daughter and husband are both obsessed with sock monkeys!  I made the curtains and bedskirt, and framed sock monkey pictures from 2 different books.  I am still looking for a pretty area rug for in front of the armoire.  I will eventually hang something over the side of her bed too.  It is hard to get good pics- I really need a wide angle lens  , but you get the idea.

Thanks for looking!  Now I can work on the nursery and hopefully finish before our baby boy arrives in April!
10  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Traditional to Modern Redo on: January 31, 2007 06:44:21 AM
OK, so here are a couple of pics of the redecorating we've done since moving in.  Our house was done up VERY traditional, which is NOT my style at all.  So the hubby and I have been tackling it one room at a time to put our signature style in this house and make it our home.  Here is the kitchen/eating area.  I have a before pic from when we looked at the house before we bought it, but it is from the opposite angle.  You get the idea though...

And here is the dining room.  The old chandelier was brass and very colonial, and the room was beige. We bought those incredible red suede chairs at a yard sale, if you can believe it!  I don't think they were ever used!
Before

After

Thanks for looking.  We are pretty psyched about the changes we've made.  My daughter's room is next on the agenda.
