1  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Modifying Patterns on: December 02, 2007 01:58:24 PM
This may not be the most appropriate board for this question, but here goes.
Just got Son of Stitch N Bitch and LOVE it. I'm working on the argyle scarf now which is super fun to knit.
Because I'm selfish, I have chosen to knit more things for myself and my girlfriends before knitting for my man.
I don't know how to modify the patterns to fit girl sizes!
For example- Ernie sweater The smallest size is 40" chest. I would want to make maybe a 36" chest. So every 4" is about 8 stitches according to the pattern.
S (M, L, XL, XXL) 40 (44, 48, 52, 56)  and CO 94 (102, 110, 122, 130).
So, for a 36" chest, I'm thinking CO 86.
Ok, that's fine. But then when I would begin shaping I'm not sure how.
I guess trial and error works, and if I take close measurements for anyone for any sweater, and keep measuring while creating, it will be fine.
I guess I must be just looking for encouragement or something.
I've been knitting for a short while but still feel pattern-bound.

2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / patches to coasters- HELP on: December 17, 2006 08:07:00 PM
I found some patches that used to be my dad's old police patches. I was thinking of making them into coasters for Christmas. Is there some sort of liquid enamel I could brush on top and it would harden?
I'm not sure how to go about doing this, but it seems like an easy project if I have the right material. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm thinking of using decoupage medium, but I've never worked with it. Can it adhere a fabric patch to cork??
