41  Little journal I made (pic heavy) in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Hookin Flamingo on: June 22, 2006 10:15:36 PM
Ok I was browsing through all of the crafty goodness here last night and came across a thread about making journals from cassette single sleaves. (I promise to post the tute she gave here so she can have all the glory)
And then I say where some one had made a hollowed out book from areaders digest condensed book but did not know what to do with all the neat pics she had cut out (I will find that thread too and give her part of the glory for inspiring me lol)
Well I said....I have some of those books set aside for making book purses....and they have some neat pics in them....So I went and got them out and cut out all the neat pics and started making these journals....

Well I did it just like in the tute that was given for the cassette sleve journal but I posted my pics on card stock and made the cover out of it....
Here are a few pics

Close up of the binding

pic of cover

Close up of cover...I thought the pic was so funny cuz it says "The witness has the whiskey glass..."
I guess if I had read the story I would know what it means

pic of cover with thread closer wrapped around it and the bead I used

Well that is it...thanks for looking

44  Re: Dolled Up Toy Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Hookin Flamingo on: June 15, 2006 01:50:38 PM
This is the before of the doll I made into a princess

She was bought at a consignment store and was in awful shape.
Her hair was pulled into 2 pony tails, her face, legs and arms had crayon marks on them and her clothes were just UGLY lol

So I took her hair off, washed and dryed it, cleaned up her body, threw out the old clothes and fixed her up.
I wish I had taken more pics of the during part but, all I have is a web cam so you can see the pics are not that good.
The puppy was a victoria secret Christmas dog. So it had a ribbion around its neck that said victoria's secret and a santa hat on.

Well the doll dress I crocheted (just making up as I went along) her shoes are slippers made from some foam sheets I had in the craft room. Her crown and the dogs collar are jewelery wire with plastic clear star shaped beads on them.
her hair (sfter being washed and dried) was just brushed and styled into a curly ponytail with a bow.

45  Purse made from thrift store book (lots of pics) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Hookin Flamingo on: June 13, 2006 08:26:47 PM
Well I live for going to the thrift stores and, I have seen so many people making purses out of hard back books that I had to try it.

The book was a .25 cent copy of John Jakes Love and War

After I gutted it I thought I might keep the inside covers as they were becasue the paper was a neat map of the south (Including my home state of Mississippi)

Well about an hour later, 4 hot glue sticks, a burnt finger, and a couple of blisters i decided that I had screwed up the inside paper soo much that I better cover it with fabric.
So I took some old canvas type fabric I had that use to cover the inside of a storage basket and hacked away at it until I got it the way I wanted.

Then after a few more hot glue sticks and adding a few embelleshments from the craft basket I have a purse...

I even cut the handles from the canvas scraps and the tie that goes aroung the little tassle came from one of the ties that held the canvas in the basket.

I am not really happy with the out come but, my daughter (age 8 ) loves it and I will get better as I make more I am sure.

This is my 1st try at amigurumi...so I was really worried abot how it would turn out.
She is only about 2 inches tall and 3 1/2 inches wide (in the arms) and I kinda made her up as I went along.
Kinda sad she is for a swap

Here is the great "item" that Gomerrific sent to me. Wink
I am going to put up the pics then explain what it is.

Now, let me tell you all about it!
She took my love of horror, vampires, goth, and flamingos and made me....
Count Mingo the Vampire Flamingo (that is what I call him)  Grin
The Coffin is make of cardboard and black tape (I think, Gomerrific please correct me if I am worng on any of this) and Count Mingo is polymer clay.
His cape is black felt with a red tie and he looks to be hand painted.
It also has a small stand made out of polymer clay that I can stand it up on but I have not yet decide what to do with him.
She wrote on the note that she hoped I could appreciate a weird sence of humor.
Well Gomerrific I love it...this is so me!!!!
I guess we both have a "weird" sence of humor because I think he is great.
Thanks so much!!!! Grin
I am going to show off the pics to some other friends thne find a fitting place for the Count to live.
Thanks again!
