1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / gift for a jimmy buffet fan..? on: December 18, 2004 08:35:02 PM
Well, I've been working on my christmas gifts and have gotten all these wonderful ideas from here, but had to finally consult the craft-sters.. haha.

I'm making one of the '___ in a box' things for my boyfriend (it's SEX, DRUGS, and ROCK AND ROLL) and for the last box, i'm pretty much doing it jimmy buffet themed.  it's music, so it'll work.  Cheesy  So anyways, I already sewed a pillow for him out of a little boy's t-shirt from goodwill that has the lyrics of 'Cheeseburger in Paradise' on it with pictures (it's really cute!), but I don't know what else to put in there!  I'm not the biggest parrothead or anything, so I'm not really sure what Jimmy Buffet fans are into.  I don't want to give him a cd, cause he already has all of them, I'm sure.  I was thinking of putting margarita mix in there, but he really wouldn't use it, or a margarita glass, I don't think.  Unless I make something out of a margarita glass[/]...

Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Thank you so much!
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Easter / yarn easter eggs - yay! on: April 09, 2004 01:00:28 PM
okay, so this is a project i tried doing after hearing my friend's mom talking about it a while ago..

what you'll need:
*mod podge (or elmer's glue would work just as well, i suppose)
*balloon(s) (the small ones that are used for those cheap waterballoons work GREAT)
*knitting yarn? - it's fairly thin, and it's really soft (rainbow works really nicely, that's what i used, and my friends used some different kinds that were all one themed color rainbow)
*scissors
*cardboard with foil on top works very well for workspace

1. blow up the balloon
2. cut strips of yarn, but make sure they're not too long, as it will cause a problem, but not too short because they won't end up looking as good.  if you wrap the string through your thumb and forefinger down around your elbow a couple of times and cut through it, it should be okay
3. cover the strings with the mod podge and wrap around the balloon.  you want to cover a lot of it, but don't cover so much of it that there's no holes! (don't forget around the top!)
4. let dry, and voila!  pop the balloon and slip it out through the top.  now, you can cut out a hole, fill it with easter grass, put stuff in there, use them as ornaments, decorate to your heart's delight!

hope you have as much fun as i did!  it's a great activity for kids if you don't mind getting glue all over the place!
