2  How Formal is Winter Formal? in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by ph33lth3lov3 on: January 03, 2006 09:57:58 PM
Hi everybody!
I'm going to Winter Formal this year, and I was wondering how formal winter formal is. I know it's not fluffy gone-with-the-wind dresses, but i have this dress:

is it formal enough?
I was thinking of wearing it with a light blue shrug or bolero i would have to make or buy (it's gonna be cold!) and a light blue purse i have already.

4  Help with Katrina Design in Discussion and Questions by ph33lth3lov3 on: September 30, 2005 01:47:03 PM
hey all-
i'm working on a project.. i need more design advice rather than technique.
I'm participating in a Katrina/Rita relief concert thing, and i'm a vendor. (all the proceeds go to the hurricaine victims)
I'm making patches to sell... i'm screenprinting the design on some cloth and using double sided interfacing to make them iron-on.
I have a couple of ideas for the design, here they are.

--A magnolia growing out of some rocks, and puddles. I don't know the phrase, but something along the lines of "out of ____ grows hope" (possible fill ins, despair, disaster, tragedy, etc)
--i was also thinking of something with this design...

i also have red fabric.
--well, that's it. I was planning on having a few different designs so people could choose... but i can't come up with ideas anymore! i have designers block! egad!

any comments, phrases, or good ideas for images would be very helpful.

thanks- A

8  Re: Is this a good deal for a silkscreen kit? in Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions by ph33lth3lov3 on: June 18, 2005 01:58:17 PM
Alright! i tried it out.
personally, i'm very excited.
It took me four tries tho, i didn't let the emulsion "cook" long enough the first three times, and the whole screen washed out. All of the chemicals worked, and i even got to try the emulsion remover on the third attempt.
I think they should include white paint in the kit.
This is the final result, mind you it's on an old sheet and i dropped something on it that made a little smear under the web address.

I'm happy! and i recommend the kit.

**however, the instruction manual is a little confusing, i worked with two other online tutorials to get things right.
I have to make another screen for another design, so i think i'll make a clear tute. just for reference. ^_^

9  yay! first embroidery, and for fathers day too! in Needlework: Completed Projects by ph33lth3lov3 on: June 18, 2005 01:40:37 PM
alrighty..  I thought my dad would like new handkercheifs for fathers day. So i got him plain white ones... and i thought to myself on the way home, "self, these are rather boring. what can we do to make them new and exciting handkercheifs?" ---> embroidery!!
so i pulled out my better homes and gardens and looked at the basic stitch guide and whatnot and gave it a go.
the first one is of his initials, K G, even thought it looks like X G. oops.

this next one is of a music note, because he loves listening and playing music.

and the last one is of a bicycle, because he loves to cycle. He's also learning french, and he loves the tour de france.

and btw, the A's and hearts are my sig on the embroidery.

(happy fathers day dad)
^_^

10  Help me pick a design! (img hvy) in Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions by ph33lth3lov3 on: June 12, 2005 03:26:19 PM
Hello craftsters!
I would like to try screenprinting. I have a kit and everything. After school gets out, I want to make black tote bags with designs on them... I just can't for the life of me pick a design! can you help me?
Questions i have: Will any of these "not work" with photo emulsion (lines too small, etc)?
Are they too weird? Would people not buy them? These are just ideas. I'm still thinking of some. Keep in mind that they will likely be white on black.

***and I brainstormed and made another***
