4  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / a dress and a pyjama on: June 25, 2008 07:11:13 AM
Hello !!!!

I wanted to share the last two things I sewn :

first, the dress i made for my daughter. I choose the size 4 years since she's quite tall (3yo) for her age but it's very wide and so short !!! it's OK, but i think she will wear it next year whit a pant under it.
fabric : freshcut design by Heather Bailey (free spirit fabric)
pattern : don't remember... i have to check

And i wanted to sew a slipcover for the crib of my son, so i did it and i made a pyjama with the leftover (totally improvise using a little pants he had as a pattern). I add a appliqué on a simple tee(first time using freezer paper : it's so great !)
fabric : Follow Your Imagination / free spirit fabrics

thanks for looking
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / things for my daughter i've made *tut magic square added !* on: February 23, 2006 09:35:35 AM

I just wanted to share little things i've made for my 1yo little girl...
hope you'll loved them !

the "magic squares"

two cribs :

close up :

a garland made with scraps of fabrics

and a painted lampshade :

The Magic square tut !!!

material :
-8 blocks of condensed foam 5 cm x 5 cm / 2inches x 2 inches
-scraps of fabrics

1- cut in a piece of cardboard a rectangle of 5 cm x 10 cm / 2 inches x 4 inches
and a square of 5 cm x 5 cm / 2 inches x 2 inches to make a template (it's easier to draw the pattern in the fabric with a template!!!! )

2- with the templates, draw :

in the pale pink fabric : 4 squares and 2 rectangles
in the bright pink : 4 rectangles
in the yellow : 4 squares and 2 rectangles
in the violet : 4 squares and 2 rectangles
in the blue : 4 squares and 2 rectangles
in the green : 4 rectangles

3 - cut all the pieces with 0.5 cm / 1/8 inche for the seam allowance

4 - put the blocks together to have a 2 lines of 4 squares

to sew all the pieces you have to methodes, sew in place by hand directly on the blocks, or by machine like a did but then you need to reconstructed each time the entire block with the foam...

5- place the pieces of the  pale pink fabric like it's shown in the picture number 1, then put the violet ones and sew the edges to hold them with the pale pink... Do the same thing with the bright pink... You have also to sew the edges between the violet fabric and the briht pink one... (Never sew 2 pieces in the same color together !!!)

6- turn the entire block and put the yellow fabric like the picture number 2... sew like step 5

7- play with the block to show the bright pink face... sew like others step... see picture 3

8- play the show the violet face - put others violet pieces and blue ones... see picture 4

9- play the show the blue face - sew like shown in the picture 5

10- play again to show the empty face, fill with the green fabric, sew all edges had'nt been saw... see picture 6

11 - have fun !

hope it's clear enough... otherwise don' t hesited to ask me....

here the pictures :

pattern of the pinwheel

just cut your reversible materiel (2 pieces of fabrics glued together like i did, or paper, thin sheet of plastic...) following the pattern... put the pointes in the center of the cross, glue/stitch in place.... that's it !
