Lookie what the wonderfully talented ultraviolet sent me.

Hehehe!  Aren't they awesome.  She even made Minra a pirate hat to go with her dress!  And she made Doll a shrug to go along with her dress.  Now Minra and Doll are begging for a boat!  Maybe next time?

THANK YOU ULTRAVIOLET!  YOU ROCK!!!
I love it!!!!!!

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to introduce you to Minra (Lounging Lovely) and Doll (Ashton-Drake redhead).  Doll belongs to my 2 yr old (can you tell she named her  Grin) and Minra is mine.  The girls are wearing dresses that I made for their first trip to Disney. (Yes, I got lots of weird looks from onlookers watching me pose them.  Cheesy)  Can't wait to see what everyone is making.  I missed the first round and was drooling over all the goodies.

Have a great day!

816  Re: cupcake( or chicken) hat pattern? in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by underthemountain on: June 04, 2006 05:24:20 AM
I did it!  This hat was soooo awesome that it inspired me to learn to knit in the round with dpn.  I have some little measurements if this helps.  My baby's head is 19 inches and I used size 7 needles for hers and my sister's head is 21 inches and I used size 8 needles.  I think the hat is a bit big on my baby which is fine since I want it to last a while.  I made this for my daughter's B-day but couldn't resist making one for my baby sis too.

Just thought I'd show a tiny bit of the stuff I am making.  I will be making more stuff in addition to everyone getting a set of hairpins but I can't post them in time to make your picks list.

Have a wonderful weekend!

819  Hi! Need help making pillow blanks for cancer patients UPDATE 9/18/08 last post in Crafty Charitable/Social Causes by underthemountain on: May 09, 2006 08:17:43 AM
Hi!
I am a volunteer with BOOKS, BEARS & BONNETS (http://www.booksbearsbonnets.org/) and I am making small pillows for the boxes that they deliver to the area hospitals.  The pillows are used in their chemotherapy for some patients and for others just something handmade that they can squeeze.  They are very simple to make but the problem is that we need alot of them.  BBB makes 2000+ boxes a year and each has a book, a teddy bear, a hat, some cards, small toys, and a pillow.  I am the only one sewing these at the moment and it is very hard to keep up the pace.  I'd appreciate it if you would help make some pillow blanks.  It is a simple pattern.  Cut 7 inch by 10 inch, face right sides together and sew so that there is a 3 inch opening centered on one of the long sides, turn inside out, fill with polyfil, and handsew together.  I have some friends at work that help stuff and sew but I am the only one with a sewing machine and I need help.  Please use cotton if you can since it breathes well and doesn't retain alot of heat.
Anyhow please let me know if you can donate a few pillow blanks to help ease the pain of someone with cancer.  My dad died from oral cancer so I started doing this as a tribute to him.

Please join in to help make a nicer day for a person with cancer.

Thanks!
Roxanne

Sept 2008

Hey everyone!!

We are no longer with Books, Bears, and Bonnets since they relocated to FL.  But we found a new wonderful home for the pillows right here at the NIH Children's Inn.  Some stay for a day, others for a year.  We thought it would be nice to help these tiny patients and show them that we care.  We're part of the Thoughtful Treasures program which provides a small gift in the child's mailbox each day of their stay.

We made our first contribution to them TODAY. They were so grateful for the pillows.  Since they need 75 pillows/donation to ensure that each child and their sibling gets a pillow we're shooting for a monthly donation.  ATM we have enough pillow blanks, but if there are any of you that want to donate your time and a little fabric to making a few blanks that would be great!

We are also going to be making cards for the kids.  So far I've enlisted the help of my 4yr old daughter to draw on simple index cards (w/o lines).  If you and your kids would like to join in that would be great!!  The only thing they ask is that no mention of hospitals, sickness, getting well-soon or anything religious be added to the cards.  I am planning on printing ones that say Have a nice day!  and then letting Lana go to work on them.

I have a pic to share later tonite of 1/2 of our group sewing.  My half sews during lunch and I forgot my camera.  Sad    These pillow blanks were donated by Tenja and Loves2experiment.  A big thanks to them!!!

Keep up the good work everyone.  Even if you can't join us, find some other way to give back.  Smiley

TTYL!
