1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / how to start steampunk stuffz on: July 14, 2011 11:42:47 AM
Ok, my latest obsession with crafty goodness is steampunk.  Now i've gotten a wind up clock, and a wind up timer that i took apart.  now i'm not sure what to do with it.  The inspiration came from all the things i've seen here, and also i picked up a small piece of framed artwork, steampunkish.  it was wind up watch pieces, and an old fashioned key mounted and framed.  I really liked it, and have it in my bedroom wall.

what is the best way to attach the gears and stuff to various things.  metal, fabric, eachother?  ideas?    When i have more time I am going to check out more tutorials.  figured i'd ask this for now.

4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: der, stupid mistake on: December 09, 2008 06:03:57 PM
I've been thinking about taking a course at the local sewing shop, for basic machine care.  I know nothing about my machine.  I don't know about oiling it or where the oil is supposed to go........but the last few times i sewed the thread was getting stuck, around where the bobbin is.

I probably need to change the needle too.  I don't sew that much, a few times a year.

Am SOOO excited about this!  I'll probably start this in the new year.  Get through the holidays!  I do have one question.  What gauge of wire would you use for the main part of the necklace?  I've got some thin wire that would be good for the web.  For the necklace, I'm unsure.  I've got some thick kind of floral wire, that may do, since the wire is going to be wrapped anyways.

I hope mine looks as good as yours.  Oh yeah, does anyone know what type of glue to use?  I've never heard of the type that was used in the tute.  I wonder if krazy glue, or tacky glue would work.

10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / made a skeleton hand necklace..... on: September 22, 2008 07:19:10 PM
Ok, I've made a skeleton hand necklace.  got the idea from this post.

Except I don't have a dremel, so I had to heat up a needle over a candle, with pliers and melt a hole in.  and i learned a lesson.  make the hole from the palm side of the hand out, that way there's no burn marks on the outside of the hand!

The only chain i had was bright shiny silver, and i wanted a darker chain, so i used black beads, cheap ones from michaels.  they're all different shapes.  also some dark clear greyish ones put in too.
