1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Leaving things for random people to find Question? Ideas? on: July 30, 2007 01:32:55 PM
www.dropspots.org is a site I happened upon a while ago. It's not specifically for crafts, but it is about leaving treasures for people to find.
The difference is that you "mark" where you left it (including instructions on how to find it ie. crawl behind the bush and look under the rock) using google maps and then someone goes and finds it. they also MUST take a treasure with them, and replace it with the one they take.
this is, of course, an honesty sort of system but it seems to work well.
it really made me stoked.

3  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Ongoing Wish Swap Round 22 on: May 30, 2007 11:36:12 AM
I claim you, ZaftigMomma, for the LEGGINGS! Well, they're more pantless legs aren't they? I will PM for some measurements.

This is my 2nd claim this round (0 sent, 1 recieved)

And my list...in a second.

About me: My name's Jenna-Leah, I'm 22 and live in South Africa. Colourwise, I like black, brown, greeeeeeen (any green, LOVE green), yellow, mustard, teal. Im not into things that are particularly girly. Im vegetarian so no leather/fur please but woolly things are fine. Im in my 3rd year studying Graphic Design. I live at home with my family. Im a big nerd, love all things geeky. Its Geek-chic though, right?

List:
  • A wallet, wristlet, or bag. Maybe like something youd find at forestprints.com (this or this or this or this or something else! More on the wist)
  • Plushie-stuffie-toy-things, Amigurumi, Softies, Felties, etc. I really love the styles of: Tania Ho and Mahardrygoods.
  • Knitted (or sewn, or felted, or anythinged) hot-water-bottle cover (with a cute something on it. I saw a blue one with a white cloud on it the other day, that was adorable!).
  • A pair of mittens. Plain, or if youre real industrious and confident then with a picture or word on the top of each ("Free" and "Wifi" is good. I saw that somewhere, so funny).
  • Buttons! Small or big. Unique and interesting. Even gaudy I like! Yeah, anything you think is cool.
  • A Fabric/paper art collage would be lovely! Curiousbird makes rad ones. Anything colourful. Animals, characters, nature, nerdy stuff.
  • A Wall organiser! I loooove this one made of felt. Just something to store a few crafty essentials in.
  • A bulletin/message board (can be roll-up-able if youre worried about sending it)
  • An apron, for crafting and/or cooking. Can be half or full. Preferably with a pocket or 2!
  • One of those roll-up paintbrush holders (similar to a knitting needle holder I imagine?). Thanks, Homerof2
  • Something gardening inspired. I grow all sorts of herbs and veges and Id love some of those little name-sticks you put in the ground to show you whats growing where. PM me for names if you choose this. Alternatively, some gardening gloves? Or something else for the garden.
  • Cookie cutters in cute shapes.
  • Badges, brooches, felt-brooches, fabric-jewellery (ideas)
  • Grab bag of sewing stuffs (some ideas: coloured elastic, interesting bias, ribbon, lace, patches, felt pieces, snaps, thread, pincushion, ooooh weee!). Im just starting to learn crochet so that crochet stuff is cool. Unfortunately I dont knit.
  • Zines. I like them. And its always cool to see zines from other parts of the world. I know, its not really a crafted item tho.
  • Recipe Cards!! I love to cook and could really dig a little stack of cute cards with lines to write my favourite recipes on.
  • Panties. Hmm. Sending underwear via the mail. If you're game, I'd dig some rouched panties. Or some with snaps on the side. Or any panties really. PM for sizing.
  • Buttony neckwarmer like the one this cool craftster made.
  • Lastly, something from my wists (which I just started recentlynot tooo many items there sorry)

Dont feel obliged to make exactly whats in the links, Im not fussy. If you want, just take a little inspiration from what I said and wing it. Thanks so much to whoever picks me. I know its more mission sending stuff abroad.

Hello! I will claim Homerof2 for
"Orange cotton fabric that's not too girly.  I'm starting to collect fabric to make my oldest son a quilt and orange is his favorite color - FQ minimum/piece, please"
Hopefully I can do a little searching and find you some awesome things.

This is my 1st claim. None sent. None recieved.

  • Cookie cutters in cute shapes.
  • Jewellery:Tunnels (aka plugs, stretchings) of 10mm. I only have one pair that I wear all the time. I would love another pair, I dont know how to make them or whatever but they cant be too rough cause theyd irritate.
    Badges, brooches, felt-brooches, fabric-jewellery (ideas)

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Crow/Raven ATC Swap? on: April 28, 2007 12:44:22 AM
I'd be into this if it comes to fruition
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Mitch Hedberg Swap on: April 25, 2007 11:47:14 AM
I'm thinking: crafty items inspired by a joke, some cool Mitch memorabilia, maybe just something in the styyyle of Mitch. Something you know he would have liked.
I dont know. I've never swapped anything before. I get attached to the stuff I make. Don't want to give it away. But I actually made some stuff for friends birthdays recently (and gave it to them) so I think I'm over that.
Anyway, if one of these were to come around...well I might have to get in on it. Someone organize!! Woot.
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: leggings. on: April 23, 2007 09:12:21 AM
I had a pair of leggings that had a hole, so i thought I will unpick them and cut a pattern so that we can all benefit. The leggins in question are size L. They come down almost to the ankle. It's a one-piece pattern, you just cut two of it (opposites obviously).

Each piece encompasses one butt side and one front side (there's no outer-side-hip-seam). The little foldover bit on the top is to hold the wide elastic you're going to sew onto it. The F and B on the pattern show you what side is what. Hope there are enough measurements to help you draw it out.

First, sew each piece together down the leg (so you have 2 tubes). Then sew the crotch. (I say do it this way because when I unpicked the leggins I noticed thats how they did it). The seams are pretty much included, but if you want a little seam allowance, just add whatever. The fabric used in these was quite a lightweight, stretchy jersey knit.

I haven't made any yet, but I will definitely post a follow up when I do. Hope they make you happy!!!
10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: The Hipslinger (aka The Fanny Pack)**TUTORIAL added!!** on: July 10, 2006 02:52:37 PM
wow this is a super long running thread! and the fact that i made my own fanny pack today means that it is still alive and well Smiley i didnt follow your pattern exactly, i made it a little bit bigger and the mouth longer and i used a clip-in thing for the closure. im so happy to finally have a use for it! i bought a bunch of them years ago, and theyve all been sitting around and ive never been able to use them. so im real pleased. and i love my baggie! so much! thanks for a great tute.
