21  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / AARG! Almost Paradise Altered Spool on: June 20, 2014 01:33:55 PM
I made this for rackycoo in the first Altered Spool Swap.  It was weird because we both picked ocean/beach themes for each other...we must have summer and vacation on the brain! Grin

I am using one of her pictures because it is way better than anything I took...

The spool is from my mom's sewing kit from the 1960's.  It originally had dusty blue thread, but that is not a color I like, so I wrapped two other blues over it...I think it gave the spool some depth and the feeling of water...of course, I had to add waves, hence the beads...and a few baubles like Mr. Crab, who has been waiting in my first ever Archie McFee jar of whimsies from way back when...

The hole in the top of the spool was begging for something...and I was destashing all of my fake floral stuff when lo and behold, a few things fell onto the floor...magically, they looked like palm tree tops!  So I used some wire, floral tape, and paper twist to create a palm tree...distressed it with ink...you can't see in any of the pics, but I also added bead "coconuts".

The sand is really artificial snow, painted cream...when I put the tree in, the spool would not stay upright, so I used an old rusty washer glued to the bottom to give it weight...the washer was found in the roots of my poor fallen 60 year old apple tree...and I found it 15 years ago! Grin

No room for a real treasure chest on such a little space, so I used broken pieces of wood leftover from my wee house.  Just pretend the chest got busted up when the bad pirate dug it up in his haste to get rich quick!

Oh, and poor pirate...he forgot to tie up his row boat, so it drifted away...leaving him on the island with loads of treasure, but no way off...oops...

The little flag was cut from a pirate print that I have had for some time...but it had skulls everywhere...well, say hello to my little friend, Mr. Black Sharpie...I colored them all in except one... Grin.

More pictures can be seen in the swap gallery, courtesy of Ms. Rackycoo, my awesome partner...

I would have loved to keep this to go with the Mermaid Spoolie she made me, but alas, it was not meant to be...I did take pictures of the two together...they made a nice beach scene! *sigh* I wish I were going to the beach now!
22  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Easter Nut Hunt! on: April 01, 2014 06:43:20 AM
My husband and his buddies are really kids at heart.  Each Easter, now that all of the real kids are gone, he complains that he misses the Easter egg hunts.  At their age, these guys do not need the cholesterol and fat in all of those eggs.

Some of the other wives and I decided to have a party this Easter with our own special adult Easter hunt...only instead of eggs, we will have the guys search for nuts!  Much healthier!

I am in charge of the invitations so I decided to make something simple...I drew a path in my yard and hid some nuts in the grassy areas and among the twigs. Can you find the almonds, hazelnutacorn, walnuts and peanut?

I will be taking the card to our local Mom and Pop shop to be reproduced.  They are a nice, conservative couple who will get a laugh at our crazy Easter Nut Hunt!  There will be about 100 people, so I better start buying nuts and thinking about the refreshments and decor!

23  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Mock cable fingerless gloves in my favorite purple! on: February 07, 2014 01:32:36 PM
Just to show how versatile this stitch is, I made a pair of fingerless gloves for Watsonc7in the OWS 100 swap...again, this is a free pattern on the knitPicks site...I love this stitch...easy and fast and just looks fancy dancy!

24  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Mock cable socks on: February 06, 2014 02:41:28 PM
I love knitting socks, but you would never know it here because most of the socks I knit are for swaps or given to my mod buddies...well, I was told to start posting in the other boards, so here I go...

I made these socks for JillHogan in the OWS 100 swap.  They are a standard top down sock but I decided to do a mock cable on the leg and down the front of the sock.  I love variegated sock yarns since they do not compete with the stitch and yet, they still add some life to the monochromatic color scheme.  This one is from KnitPicks.  Don't worry, Jill, I washed them before I sent them to you...no stinky feet smell on your socks! Grin

and yeah, I made two matching... Wink

This pattern is fast and easy...very little counting and one of my favorites---I actually had made a pair of mitts and a cowl using this mock cable and figured it would work with socks as well...and the pattern for the cable was FREE!!
25  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / 50 Projects 2014--Let's continue the craftiness! on: December 26, 2013 10:23:11 AM
Welcome (or Welcome back...Grin) to the 50 projects in 2014 craftalong!!!

My own creative messy room that I am always in... Grin  It is an ongoing WIP...

In this craftalong, the intended goal is to be creative and have fun making projects.  When many of us started tracking what we were making, it was amazing how many projects we got done....and when we set our goals, WOW, we got even more done!

If there is a board on Craftster for the project, it counts:  home decor, cooking , knitting, sewing, beading, etc. etc.

Amaze yourself and keep a pictorial history of all that you get accomplished, whether it is 1 major project or 200 smaller ones, just making something will be special for you and those of us that you share your pictures with.

We will continue to have challenges and prizes...I am not the faster organizer or the best moderator, but I try hard and am encouraged by all that I have seen you guys make...

Get your list ready, if you want, or just post as you go...whatever works best for you...share your tips and share your encouragement and techniques...also, be sure to post "out there" for others in the community to see!!!  We love pictures, so, no such things as "Pic overload"...bring it on!!!

Oct-Dec 2014

The winter holidays are approaching and so many of us have such a long list of decorations, gifts, and food to make!

To enter the drawing, your project has to fit one of these categories:

1. Warm, comforting, tasty food!  You do not need to post here, but you must provide a link to where you posted, such as on the other craftalongs, cooking, etc.

2. Holiday decor:  Halloween, Winter Solstice, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, etc. If you celebrate it and make something, it will count.

3. Gifts:  I know that many of you make gifts but can't post because someone might see...so if you want to save them up, we will do a special drawing in January for any gifts you made for the holidays. THEY WILL NOT COUNT for this contest, but if you do post them early, I will enter you in January.

4. Swap items:  For each swap or challenge you enter, you will get a bonus of one entry.  If your item is one of the above, that means you get two entries for each swap item!  I am trying to get people to swap more. Grin

5. Charity:  We have to think of those less fortunate than we are...any little bit helps...so if it is crafting for a charity, you get an entry.

Have fun and good luck!

26  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Bo Bo the Bear on: December 10, 2013 10:28:54 AM
My younger brother brought me his childhood bear to repair when he came for Thanksgiving dinner this year.  When I saw it, I looked at my brother and said, "Are you kidding me?".

Bo Bo was the first bear he got when he was born in Germany...that thing is over 50 years old and has seen better days!  It was disgustingly filthy and in shreds!  It was stuffed with who knows what...and made worse because my brother tried to wash it by hand...ugh!

I can't tell you how many times in my years that I remember sewing on an ear or a leg...even when I went off to college, I would come home and there would be my brother, asking me to fix Bo Bo...after he got married and I got married, I never expected to see that thing again...alas, 35 years later, he's back!!!

Here is what I mean:

Front view:

Back view:

Can you see why I told him that it was time to let Bo Bo go?  There is a Bear Heaven, I am sure...last night, my brother called again to see how Bo Bo was doing...I told him that it was a lost cause and that I needed to throw him out...nope, he said he was going to come to my house and take him home as is...

Well, won't he be surprised when I give him this:

Yeah--I am a good big sister...and Bo Bo is now ready to face another 50 years... Grin.

What I did:

1. Took off what parts were left and unstuffed them.
2. Gently washed all parts and sewed all seams again
3. Embroidered a new face and replaced missing eye
4. Used body parts to make new ears
5. made new body from brown fleece
6. Stuffed with new stuffing
7.  hand sewed legs, arms, ears and head to body
8.  made a new shirt from one of my brother's old shirts
9.  I am going to make some jeans as well as soon as I can get a pair of my brother's old ones

I hope my sister and mom can keep a secret until Christmas day....ha ha...thanks for looking!

29  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / You're Not the Boss of Me on: July 26, 2013 05:45:15 AM
I have several little grand nieces and nephews...at some point in their little world, they all seem to have said this phrase, so I decided to embroider it for the youngest one for future use Wink

As I am such a novice embroiderer, I used the stab stitch (in and out) and crayons for the skin...Cheesy

I used an image I found on the web but changed it up to look like the little guy.  I used green on the words because eventually, I am going to make this into a cushion for his room. (It is also the color thread I have the most!)

Here is the youngest member of my family on his first birthday! Yeah...I am confident he will be speaking these words soon, little imp! Grin

30  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Moody Mug Rugs on: July 10, 2013 09:47:15 PM
A friend of mine asked for a mug rug for her desk...I decided she needed some choices....

Sometimes you are in an everyday mood...straight up, no fancy stuff, to the point...how about a simple basic one?

Sometimes you are in a romantic mood...what says romance better than having a little afternoon delight in Paris? Wink

And, sometimes you just want the whole banana...Grin

Hope she has fun in the office....sipping her tea, of course!
