15161  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: My first crochet hat made by winging it! on: January 25, 2010 07:02:48 AM
I just love the videos!  I am going to try a crochet shawl for myself next!

I can do flat things as long as the stitches are basic...I really admire the people who can mix and match stitches and just look at something and make it!

Practice practice--I am sure with experience, things get easier! YAY--I wore my new hat today and I am not telling anyone about the "mistakes"--shhhhh!

Cooking totally counts as a project! ha ha

It will be neat to see the mixed sizes!!  I have seen books that were a mix of paper, fabric, and yarns...I might have to incorporate my snips of yarn into this...I have yarn pieces from every project I ever did...Cheesy
15166  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Knifty Knitters! on: January 24, 2010 09:28:04 PM
Here is the pic of the pen I used and an action shot.  It really does keep my hands from drying out and goes super fast!  I always do the "last" and "first" stitches first so I don't have to anchor down the thread--that takes too much time!!

The cheap pen I used had a point, which I cut off to fit the yarn--it is removeable as well so if I have chunkier yarn, I can just take the orange part off!

This is how I hold it to get tension in the yarn:

here it is in action!

ta-da! I love your idea laughing_lark!!!

Great pages so far--I collect fabrics and as long as I cut myself a little piece, I can use it...same with yarn and paper (yeah, yeah--some sort of obsessive/compusliveness!)...

I have been working on a fiber book for a few years...maybe a craftalong will get it moving faster!

It seems to be working with the chunky book craftalong!

Ok--I am doing this!! Probably going to do a mix of standard quilt patterns and collage...I like what I have seen so far

noooo--your cover is totally mesmerizing!!  I am going to have to think of something special for a cover!

aw thanks--it is fun to venture outside the comfort zone...and now I have another hobby to keep me busy in the winter besides knitting!

oh! thanks a lot!  I learn so much better seeing it done than reading about it!

I just logged into the videos!!  I will probably be trying a few of her hats this week! She sure makes it look easy and answers the basics!

This helps a lot!!

I like how you are showing various techniques!

The hearts and roses are wonderful and I especially like the bird using the image transfering!
