I know what you mean about planning...I want a journal of nothing but ideas and inspiration...right now, I have a photostorage boxes labeled with different things, like Jewelry ideas, etc...but mostly, I have things written on scraps of paper...if I had a journal, I could glue in those scraps or draw right on the pages!!

Can't wait to see your pages...I am sure I am going to be motivated to work on mine!

hmmm--I actually like working with plastic needles better because they are flexible...mine are all bendy now, but I love them...since all of the stitches are knit, the decreases should be easier, not harder...I hate to decrease in purls!

Not sure how you are doing them, laughinglark, so I have no tips for you...maybe just knit looser in general?

Thanks Mio!  I am looking to expand the use of my KK...I would love to try a stripey hat using your tips!  The swirly ones sounds a bit more complicated, but I think I might try that as well...it is a good way to produce a lot of hats for charity--fast and inexpensive!

14584  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: felted knitted bowl, what did I do wrong? on: February 17, 2010 06:10:05 AM
Well, here is what I do:  I knit the project, usually a purse...sew it together and then I put the water on very low on the washer, add soap, bicarbonate soda, and put it on the highest agitation...I throw in some old dishtowels because the felting is caused by the towels rubbing up against the wool fibers...

I let it go through the spin cycle...I then take old socks, stuff them inside the purse and shape it a bit...I take it out when it is damp, do a final shaping, then let it air dry...if I do not like the felting, for instance, if it is not hard/dense enough, I do it again...for a purse it is not necessary to be so hard, but for my bowls or jewelry, I like it thick and dense...I have been using this method for about six years now...

Hope some of my tips work for you...you have to keep trying, though, because you did such a nice job with your knitting! I used to do stockingnette but found that it really did not matter once felted...It does matter if you do seed or moss stitch--it gives the felting bumps, which I like!!

I love to see how young artists evolve...and to be honest, there is something raw and evoking about creating art...techniques can be learned, but the artist spirit and eye is a gift...and you have that gift... I am following the progress of you, audio, and vinnie...my current craftster crushes!!!

Here is the link to everything you wanted to know about making ATC's. We even have a board dedicated to them! I am currently addicted to making inchies and rinchies--you can find info on these on the paperboards--I am not counting any of these since you can make 100's of them...but I am counting my display projects... Cheesy

I think you bowl is very cute!

How did you do the felting?

It might be that you used sports weight instead of worsted weight wool...it is heavier and felts a bit stiffer...if you want a pencil holder, you definitely will have to make it taller--the shrinkage is 1/3 to 1/5 the size--it is hard to judge sometimes...

did you dry it in the dryer?
