14521  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: What to do with this fabric? (add yours!) on: July 11, 2011 06:56:03 AM
How much do you have?  It helps to know if it is 1/4 yard or 6 yards! Cheesy

If you have a lot, how about an infinity top?  It would be fun for summer and you could wear it a lot of ways!
14522  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Hoarder's Journal, my scraps and treasures bound in one book! (pic heavy!!) on: July 11, 2011 06:52:36 AM
Your book is a marvelous collection of stuff!

You could close it with some ties or even an elastic, like some notebooks I have seen!  It is stuffed with inspiration and places for you to add some more writings and drawings!

What a great way to use up all those special papers and images!

Thanks!

I do like bags that are more like huge sacks...I have tried bags with tons of pockets, zippers, etc. and find that in reality, I just throw things in... Cheesy

I think I will make another one for the winter... Cheesy...maybe out of corduroy...

Thanks!

ha ha I am about sick of that 9 patch pattern...

and, wouldn't you know it...I got another kit today in the mail--and the entire back fabric is that fabric I hate! Cheesy

Serves me right for complaining... Cheesy

Mel--they are super easy...sew together 3 inch squares...cut lining same size as your patchwork--for adults, cut in half; for kids, cut in half then half again...I used strips of the lining/muslin fabric to make the ties

Love that fabric!

Did you use a pattern?  I am working on two tops--I have not sewn clothing in forever...

Finished one of the kits I was sent.  Turtles and Friends. I really hated the border fabric--they were not cut straight so the squares appear to be crooked...I am sure a child will not notice, but it bothered me! Cheesy

14529  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Saving my Old Sewing Chair from the Dump on: July 09, 2011 11:55:33 AM
My parents bought me my first sewing machine and sewing chair when I was 15 years old (uh, over 40 years ago! Smiley )...the sewing machine is gone, replaced by newer models...and I thought I was going to have to replace the sewing chair as well...poor thing...

Torn upholstery, broken top...worn wood

The lift up top was just placed on top in order for me to use it...

After seeing some of the wonderful reupholstery of our members (like bongirl5)...I decided I could try to save my chair.  I sprayed all of the wood with black paint...then I used less than 1 yard of fabric, tons of staples, some hot glue and trim, cuss words, and a bunch of screws...

The piping is made with some leftover checks and I used giant ric-rac to cover the staples:

I love my "saved" chair...and maybe it will last another 40 years! Cheesy

The old law firm I worked for gave out these bags as "Appreciation" gifts in 1997...yep--I have been using it for 14 years! Cheesy

After many washings and lugging it to and from the gym for the last 4 years, it was time to give it up!

I used the old bag for the measurements and took off the hardware I needed, including the zippers.  Here is the new bag:

Nasty old bag:

I used vinyl to reinforce the area where the handles join the body:

The bag is huge, to hold shoes, shower stuff, towels, etc. The zippered pocket holds my weight-lifting gloves, sports watch and my workout notebook.

Thanks for looking...I am happy with my new bag and my friends at the gym are so glad the nasty bag is no more! Cheesy
