I love those colours together.  Reminds me of coleus plants.

Here is my spinning this week.  Its my first attempt at art yarn.  I love it.  I'm picturing knitting a big slouchy loosely knit hat from it.  I know my daughter will love and wear it.

Totally proud of mine this week.  All spindle spun.  I'm becoming addicted to spindle spinning.  I can't get enough.  I'm loving my new book Respect the Spindle.

3  Betty Bat in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by krafty_kelly on: October 18, 2009 05:40:18 PM
I just wanted to share this little bat that I made.  She is from a free pattern that is being offered here http://mygurumi.blogspot.com/2009/10/halloween-special.html and only until October 21st.  Stop by this blogger's site as she has other great crochet patterns as well.

I needle felted eyes onto my Betty as I had no safety eyes around.  I plan on making several more of these cuties for Halloween.

Does anyone else squeal in delight when they see Fibre Fridays starting with a post from jazzturtle?  Yikes.  I'm in awe of your yarns.  Gorgeous!!

I know what corespinning is, but I don't know what tailspinning is.  Anyone?

Here  is my offering this week.  I'm actually using techniques from 'Spin Control' and was success with a backwards long draw.  Prior to this my yarns were always spun in a short forward draw and usually ended up being spun tightly.  I'm happy with this new to me technique.  I'm  not real consistent, mind you.  But I love the results so far.

Its thick and think, about 160 yards called 'Breakwater'

I logged on Friday to post this, but no one had started the thread and I didn't want to start it myself as I didn't really have much to say, just to show off really.

Just spun it whilly nilly paying no mind to how the colours lined up.  I'm thinking I'd like to make a 'Baktus skarf' out of it.  Lots of yardage.  About DK to worsted weight.

I have a few this week.  No clever names though.

The first one has been languishing for quite some time.  Its sushi colored corriedale from etsy seller christinamariepotte r.  Loads of yardage here!

Here is some of the samples that I got in the March phat fiber box.  I spun them all together and plied with a natural corriedale single that had been on the bobbin forever.

And finally these are leftover of bits and bobs that I didn't think I had enough to do anything with.  I wound it into a centerpull ball before I took a decent picture.

Is it just me or are the yarns more spectacular than usual this week?

I particularly love 'life's a gas'.  I just love the colour combo.

I did spin a little this week, but nothing quite finished.  I did finish the mittens that I spun the yarn for last week, so I"ll show those off instead.

Here is my yarn this week.  I had it done by Friday but am only just getting around to posting now.

There is about 150 yards of dk weight, 2 ply, corriedale.

It wants to be mittens.  Right away.

Well, 1 mitten anyway.

I have 2 yarns to contribute this week.  And I have a question.  But first, the yarns.

100 yards of 2 ply superwash merino about a DK weight from roving by etsy seller crazymonkey.  I'm calling it Easter Basket.  The colours remind me of Easter Grass and those Jelly Eggs that no one seems to like.

50 yards of navajo plied worsted weight from roving by etsy selller knitfrontandback.  I'm calling it Heir of Slytherin.

Now my question.  How do you all set your yarns?  Up until now I've set the twist with a lukewarm bath and then kind of held between my hands and snapped to get kinks out, and hung to dry.  I've just tried 'shocking' the finished yarn with a soak in hot water, then onto icy cold and repeat and then whacking it on the laundry sink.  For some reason this yarn seems squishier.  Or maybe its just how its spun.  Does it make a difference to the finished yarn how it is set?  I eagerly await your expert answers.

what are you doing with your spun yarn?

My new years resolution was to knit with my handspun more.  I usually make small project from it.  I've even gifted yarn to some fiber loving friends who appreciate handspun.

Here is my second Navajo ply.  Its 100% alpaca.

Jazzturtle - your yarns are always amazing, but with the new wheel...there are no words.  I can't wait to see what else you come up with.
