1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / animal cable patterns? (like the beloved owl) on: May 08, 2010 06:31:47 AM
Good morning! I was wondering if anyone knew of any cable patterns that make animals a la the owl cable pattern?

Thanks!

2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / help with fisherman hat? on: August 31, 2008 07:35:08 AM
Sunday morning-- a good time for knitting! almost September-- a good time for starting hats!

my boyfriend wants this: http://www.oipolloi.com/store/OurLegacy-FishermanHatRed-3562.html#

I know how I would do the bottom part, but can anyone help me with the top? it looks like moss stitch/seed stitch, but is there something else going on?

also, one of the views shows the back of the hat, which has a big ol' seam. i'm not so keen on knitting a hat flat, but should i do it anyway? if so, any advice on shaping the crown is welcome.

thanks a million!!!
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / baby mitten sizes? on: November 12, 2007 07:58:48 AM
so, my mom commissioned me to make a couple of things for a coworker of hers who has a new baby. I made a hat and would like to make some mittens to go with it, but I was wondering roughly how big baby mittens ought to be? how tall, how wide, and wrist circumference? I'm trying to make things a little big that she can wear for a while, so sizing for 3-6 months or so would be helpful.

thanks so much! I'm clueless.
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / cabley hat on: January 25, 2007 06:12:04 AM
it's definitely been a chicago winter, so I made this hat with really thick yarn. I made the whole thing stockinette instead of just the cabled parts, which makes the cables a little more low-key.

5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / totoro wrist cuff, for no real reason on: January 25, 2007 06:10:13 AM
I knit this Totoro bracelet thingy on a whim, and am giving it to a friend of mine. I think I'm going to knit more Totoro stuff soon, because it's really satisfying...

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / delightfully premature neck tube on: August 23, 2006 03:59:37 PM
As part of my autumn prep, I knitted this, err, neck tube.

Neck tube in action!

Closeup, for cabley goodness:

I used this excellent Hello Yarn pattern and it went reeeeally fast.http://www.helloyarn.com/cherrygarcia.htm
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / it was toooooo hot, so I.... on: August 05, 2006 09:43:06 PM
...turned into a polar bear and moved to the North Pole.

Inspired by knitty's coif and SnB Nation's Russian Winter (although I didn't even come close to using either of those patterns) and a bunch of fuzzy white yarn that my boyfriend tried to dissuade me from buying. But it was a dollar....

9  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / the goofiest bunny on: June 21, 2006 08:12:01 PM
Yet another permutation of Jess Hutch's bunny. What a terrific pattern. Anyway, this bunny is rather wonky if you ask me, but she was fun to make and I don't think my five-year-old cousin is picky in the way of stuffed animals.

10  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / dino hat! on: April 28, 2006 10:20:51 AM
So my roommate really, really loves dinosaurs. So I made her a dino hat! He is kind of disgruntled, but soft.
