1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / angora rabbit help? on: April 03, 2008 11:17:09 AM
i rescued a french angora rabbit last fall and i could use some tips from anyone who has or has had an angora rabbit.  i'm having a difficult time getting him to sit still for brushing and plucking, and he refuses to let me near his belly so he's getting some mats down there.  he also refuses to let me clip his nails so he's a pretty frightening beast at times!  Cheesy

will he be less feisty as he gets older (and neutered)?  he's only about six months old right now.

also, did you blend or dye your rabbit's fur before spinning?  what did you blend it with and what was the ratio?  what kind of dyes are best to use on angora?  any other advice on prepping/spinning angora?

thanks in advance Smiley

knitwit's partner for the january jamboree seems to have disappeared, and although she's been super patient, we think it's time for her to receive a package of crafty goodness!

knitwit and her partner had agreed to one large item and one small item plus whatever extras they wanted to add.  no theme; just wist and stalking based.

knitwit deserves a fabulous swap package --- please pm me if you're willing to craft one for her!  Grin

8  Oregon / Oregon: Northwest / Spinning tutor? on: December 23, 2006 03:18:56 PM
i inherited my grandmother's spinning wheel this summer.  i know how to use a drop spindle, but applying that concept to an entire wheel has proven a little difficult.  Undecided  basically, i have no idea what i'm doing and i need help.

i know there are spinning classes and such available, but i'm really looking for someone who knows their stuff to come take a look at the wheel and make sure it's in working order/not missing any parts/put together correctly and maybe give me a quick lesson?  i'd hate to sign up for a class and upon arriving discover that my wheel is missing something important.

the spinning wheel itself was imported directly from norway between 1960 and 1970 (for about $35!).  i think it's lovely and it would mean a lot to me to be able to use it.

anyone willing to help me out or know anyone who can?  i hear there's a guy who inspects and restores spinning wheels, but i also hear that he's pretty expensive and that there's a waiting list.  ideally, i'd love to get help from someone i can pay in crafts/baked goods/pet sitting/etc.

thanks in advance for any tips!

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Honest opinion? Sweater to cropped vest recon on: December 15, 2006 10:13:34 PM
sooo... i don't generally recon clothing, because i'm not very good at it, but i *wish* i were!  Cheesy  every once in a while i get the recon bug and dig through my closet for clothes to remake.

anyway, i had an old wool sweater from goodwill that was too small, so i felted it in the washing machine, cut the sleeves off to be used for legwarmers, and was left with a sort of sweater-vest.

i cut it down the middle and added a button, but i'm not sure if it's cute or... not.  Cheesy  honest opinions greatly appreciated!!
