1  Illinois / Illinois: North / Re: Calling all crafters in Bloomington/Normal! on: October 26, 2006 09:54:19 AM
Unfortunately I don't know of any major craft fairs  in B/N, and I've lived around here my whole life. Sad It is odd though considering it's not really that small a town and like you said we have Wesleyan and ISU both! Bah! And an indie craft fair would just be beyond awesome.

The shows around town at the schools and what not aren't too bad. There are some ummm..less than interesting things of course (it's to be expected here I think. lol), but there are some really cool things too. They're at least worth a trip to check them out especially if you already live in town. If I remember correctly, I think it was the show at BHS (Bloomington High School) that was the best one I found last year. It was quite large, using all the hallways on the main level and the gym, and there we lots of really great booths and items. Actually, that is the ONE I managed to find info about online just yesterday...it's on 11/4.

Also, it's not 'crafts' per se, but have you ever checked out the 3rd Sunday Market at the Interstate Center? I went for the first time last weekend and WOW is that the coolest event ever. It's mostly antiques and random stuff but there are some fantastic finds and not as expensive as you might think. There are a few crafts and such but mostly antiques and other random vendors. It's huge, they use all the bldgs at the center and have stuff set up even outside throughout the grounds, food and drinks and everything. But it only runs May-October so it's over for this year..something to think about come next Spring though! Smiley

...still begging for info on more craft shows in town

Okay, I'm having some serious craft show withdrawals lately. I don't know if I've already missed the fall shows in Bloomington/Normal or what but I can't find them anywhere. Last year I went to at least one every weekend..lots at the local high schools, and I know it was around this time of year because everyone had lots of Christmas stuff out.

If anyone knows about some upcoming shows, please please I beg you to tell me. I know they are there, but they are doing such a good job of hiding from me! :/

3  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: questions regarding a Brother Charger 651 on: October 21, 2006 08:39:09 AM
I have my mom's old machine, which isn't as old as this one but looks a lot like it. I can't remember what the little knob on the top does but it's always up on mine, not pushed in.I actually don't remember the machine doing anything different whether it was up or down...might have something to do w/ darning if you're using that function??
The silver knob on the left with the numbers is definitely the tention. The other silver knob on the top in your last picture might be your different stiches.Mine looks a bit different but that's what mine is for and if it's moving your needle then it makes sense.

The other knob in the picture should then be your stitch length most likely, and if you check the center part of it, try pushing that in, if it is a button that you can push in, then that part is your reverse function. On mine I have to hold it in when I want to use it, it doesn't just stay in. I still don't know if that's normal or something wonky with my machine thought since I've never used any machine but this one.

Hope that helps a bit! Smiley

Now that I've just started teaching myself to knit as of yesterday, I'll be searching around for some fantabulous stitch markers too. Any suggestions?

10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Emotional Photo Scavenger Hunt Swap Gallery on: August 10, 2006 11:31:52 AM
I recv'd my loverly package from craftygem last week but I've been on vacation and couldn't get the pics up in time. I'm so sorry for slacking craftygem! I love everything though..the frame she did is completely adorable and the photos are beautiful...

the frame...sooo cute! and pic for 'happiness'

Clockwise from top left....Contentment, anger(wate falls rushing in),boredom, longing

Love, excitement (rock climbing!), lonliness, jealousy (pic of the moon but the wires were jealous and wanted to be seen more in the picture LoL) , sadness

I love them all but I think my favorites are happiness, contentment and love. That photos of (your daughter?) and the dog is just precious. I love it. Thanks so much craftygem!!

Sorry about the glare on the photos. If you have better ones craftygem, please post 'em up. Smiley
