21  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Leave st on needle...what?? on: February 26, 2006 06:58:01 PM
I'm working on a mock cable scarf and the pattern says to

*P1, k the second st on the left needle, leave this st on the needle and k the first st on the left needle; drop both sts off needle; rep from * to last st, p1

My trouble lies in the bold area.  How can you knit a stitch without transferring it onto the right needle?  Or do you just put it back on the left needle after transfering it to the right?  I'm afraid this is a totally ridiculous question but I am (obviously) a very new knitter.  Any help making sense of this pattern would be appreciated.

22  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Knitting with wool on: February 26, 2006 06:44:53 PM
Is it me, or is knitting with wool yarn more difficult than acryllic or cotton?  Or maybe I just bought really cheap yarn that makes it harder?   Huh

25  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Absolute beginner pattern? on: February 13, 2006 10:06:09 AM
I've decided that I WILL learn to knit Smiley  I've tried both knitting and crocheting in the past, but gave up b/c I couldn't learn from books.  But with the help of knittinghelp.com and maybe a free class, I am more confident this time.

Anyway...

What do you suggest as a good first project?
26  Pennsylvania / Pennsylvania: Southeast / Craft classes in Philly on: February 12, 2006 11:17:18 AM
Any personal recommendations of where to do crafty things in the city?  For example - knitting/crocheting classes, beadwork, sewing classes, etc etc.  I'm an amateur crafter at best, so I'd like to learn some new things/techniques.
27  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / knitting classes from a.c. moore? on: February 12, 2006 10:14:19 AM
Has anyone tried these classes? I assume it's a one-time class, two hours for $10 - showing the basics? I've been wanting to learn forever, but I'm having zero luck teaching myself from a book. I was wondering if this seems like a worthy investment or a waste of time.
