1  U.K. AND IRELAND / IRELAND / Galway, Ireland ? on: December 03, 2006 05:14:39 PM
Hi there. I'm an American who may have the chance to move to Galway, Ireland. Can anyone tell me anything about it? I know it's about 3-4 hours from Dublin, but that's about it!
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / easy scarf swatch swap (hobo scarf) on: November 27, 2006 10:17:30 AM
I got this idea from a livejournal community that was just started. I'm not sure exactly how they are running it, but do check it out if you're interested (shareascarf).

Anyway, I'm sure everyone is doing a lot of knitting for the holidays, and will probably have some leftover yarn. How about we knit up some swatches from our leftovers and trade with each other - then we can assemble our pieces into random scrap scarves? You know, something like this:

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=124757.0

We would set a size for the swatches, so they all match up. And the pattern, texture, type of yarn would be left to the knitter's discretion.

Any thoughts?

3  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / might be a dumb beginner question... on: November 26, 2006 04:17:23 PM
when a pattern says, for example, "dc in each dc across..." does it mean the same thing as "dc in each st across..."?

or do they mean different things, such as crocheting in a different part of the stitch?

8  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / little bits of paper on: August 11, 2006 10:26:41 AM
I like to do paper crafts, such as stationery, and I often have little bits of pretty paper left over, in odd shapes. I usually end up throwing them away, but there must be a use for them. Any ideas? Note that I usually don't have a whole lot of the same kind of paper, just lots of little random scraps.
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / felting frustration, grr on: July 20, 2006 09:15:47 AM
I've tried felting a knitted item before, and failed miserably. So, I thought I'd try again! Ha! I failed again Sad
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have 100% wool (says it's good for felting right on the label). I put it in the washer on hot cycle with a pair of jeans and a bit of soap. When I went back to check on it, it looked exactly the same, albeit wet, and stinky. I tried stockinette stitch and garter stitch to see if that would make any difference. What the heck is going on? Can anyone help?
10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Velvet Goldmine/ glam rock swap? on: July 11, 2006 01:32:23 PM
I really love this movie and the soundtrack. Pretty much everything about it. It could make a fun swap. Anyone interested?
