2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / PLEASE I NEED HELP with my singer 5528 (that's right ... made in 1956) on: February 07, 2006 08:28:25 PM
okay so i'm going to get back into sewing after an encouraging email from my grandma but i needed a machine here at school. so, my parents (who are auctioneers) get me this machine - it works and i have hope but when i try to sew anything my thread get shreaded.  this is my first time having to problem solve on my own ... since my grandma usually would just fix my problems  -but she's in FL and i'm in MD Sad

my questions are...

is there a trick to getting the tensions to match up?
where do i need to oil my machine?
how lose/tight should the screws be for my foot and where i put my needle?

i would have went to my grandma on this one, but it's late and she has a hard time hearing me on a cell phone  Sad

oh and finally... if i went someplace to get the machine fixed/figured out how much moneys are we talking?

thank you in advance!
