1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: What is this technology I'm looking for called? on: May 30, 2009 03:53:07 PM
Hi there! Any luck? Wordpress is a really good choice for this, and fairly simple if you know html!
This theme is really cool and could be modified to do what you're asking:
http://www.thekingcart.com/2008/10/02/crafty-cart-free-wordpress-ecommerce-plugin-theme/

I'm not sure it's called anything, it really just comes down to the links in your navigation menu. You can tag and categorize anything you post in wordpress, then it's as easy as adding the link to 'all post tagged with lemon' to the navigation bar under 'lemon'

I work as a web designer and do freelance if you're looking to hire someone. Hope this helped a little!

Amanda

I've been looking around for some info about something I'd like to use when building my website, but I don't even know what it's called so I'm not having any luck finding it.

I want something (programming, software, shopping cart?) that when I put an item for sale on my website that I can assign tags to it and have those tags become links in my menus if I so choose.

For instance, on my website I would like menus that give the shopper some shop-by options. Like "shop by color" or "shop by scent." Say I make a bar of soap. It smells like citrus, it is shaped like a lemon, and it is the color yellow. When I assign tags such as "citrus" or "yellow" to be used in a search feature on my site, I would like to peg some of those tags to be added to the menus if I want them on the menus or not.

What is this technology called?

How do I get it for a one-time only charge (I don't want to pay monthly or annual charges for the use of the technology)?

How much should I expect to pay for this kind of thing?

I am very savvy when it comes to HTML, CSS, and graphics, but anything beyond that has me scratching my head.  Coding that kind of functionality with just html and css is possible, I'm sure, but would be a nightmare to upkeep because it wouldn't be dynamic.

I've tried etsy in the past, but I want more customization with my own graphics that etsy can't give me, so that's why I'm doing my own site. And I want to do it right!!!!

Thank you for any pointers, advice, and direction you guys give me.
