You know I was recently thinking about making a dress like this myself. 

About the back, I think you'll just need to cut your fabric bigger and gather it above the butt to get the poofy look.


If I understand what Caterina said, I *think* this should be a pattern. I'm not too good at this yet though.  The red scribbles are the places that needs gathering.

My second try at doing clothes, inspired by Thumbelina's lovely skirt.

Tutorial I used is here, although I don't want to see the page again because then I feel like my version, er, sucks. 

I've handsewn the whole thing and I still need to hem the 3 metres of tulle. Oh screw. The satin fabric I used is a little sheer but I'll buy some short white leggings for underneath. 

Any comments/constructive criticism?

Well I'm pretty much new to sewing, (and quite new to craftster. Hello everyone!  ) and when I saw this "hanty" tutorial (http://www.max.hi-ho.ne.jp/hotaru/panty/) I just had to try it. Unfortunatly the lady's English is hard for me to understand (I speak Dutch) so I stopped following the tutorial after I printed out the pattern.  That's probably why mine looks a tad different.

Oh and it's my first sewing project. It was a bitch. But that's ok. 



It looks a bit uneven but that's just me being crooked. 

PS: Yes that IS my butt. Yikes.
