1  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Circular Shrug- created by keridana, julsey723, guessica, and others... on: May 02, 2007 06:56:49 PM
Impshlady, if I were you, I would cry.  If mine doesn't fit, I will be so sad.  This has been my stress relief project for the semester, so it can't end up causing me more stress!!

I have another 2 inches to go, though I think I need more yarn for the last inch, grrr
2  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Circular Shrug- created by keridana, julsey723, guessica, and others... on: April 28, 2007 06:01:50 PM
I've been working on this ever so slowly since february... I am finally about 1" into the final ribbing, I can't wait to see if it actually fits!  It is my first ever non-scarf project, and my first time increasing & decreasing... decreasing went wonderfully, increasing had some mishaps.  Mostly b/c I was doing it on the train, and this portly old man who is also a knitter (!) insisted on talking to me the whole time and I lost my concentration.
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Turtle Swap Gallery on: April 24, 2007 03:13:05 PM
omg I had no idea this was going on or I'd have been all over it.   well, I'd have thought about being all over it b/c I'm in grad school while working full time still.  But everything so far is awesome!!!

5  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / 4 pairs of jeans into... ? on: March 15, 2007 07:29:13 PM
I have 4 old pairs of jeans that are serviceable (well except one pair I can't button anymore  Undecided) but I just don't like anymore.  I know I could donate them, but I have a feeling I could also do something else with them... I was thinking of making a carryall tote or grocery tote, but that would probably only take one pair (I'm 5' 11" so there's plenty of fabric to work with!).  Two pairs also have a lot of stretch to them, so I'm not sure how they'll work up as something else...

Any other ideas? Gracias!

it's actually slower for me now... is that weird?  the recent posts with pics pages take a million years to load, both on my home and work computers (I know, shame on me, craftstering at work! bah!).  I noticed it yesterday too...  Undecided
8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Plan a bridal shower?? But I've never BEEN to one! ack! on: March 06, 2007 06:57:23 PM
Thanks so much everyone for the suggestions thus far!!!  In terms of progress, I have decided to make a towel cake for her, partly because I have been joking with her that I am going to furnish her entire bathroom.

Beatluv, it's totally random, but I was actually already bugging my friend about having a pinata.  I'm not sure she enjoys the idea nearly as much as I do!  I found one online that's actually a wedding cake, which is awesome.

I am going to craft the invites myself... I'm on spring break next week and will be doing them then.  It's hard because I barely know the other bridesmaids, much less the guests I'm inviting!  My friend and I ran in different circles in college but we are somehow still best buds.

brideOFkniterstein, thanks for the idea about starbucks gc's as prizes, that's perfect for all these people I don't know.  Who can't enjoy that?

rainylakechick, I love that collage... maybe I will do something like that which people can sign around and she can take home as a keepsake?  or does that seem weird?

cinnamon teal, that lingerie decorating is a great adaptation of the toilet paper dresses that people were telling me about! I can get undies for cheap in NYC at Conway.  I'm trying to decide whether to delegate games or not... it's hard because I am a crafty control freak and I just want everything to be perfect for her!

misskorilyn, I really like the madlibs idea too, that's a fun non-traditional game.  I'm terrified that people will be bored; I'm like that about every party, which is why I don't often have parties!  Was the madlibs something you guys found online?

I was also thinking of doing the recipe card thing... since I'm having a sunday brunch party, should I ask for just brunch recipes? or is anything fine?  I don't even know what qualifies as a brunch recipe, LOL

Thank you SOOOO much for your ideas guys, you have no idea how much I appreciate it.  I was feeling like I had no idea what to do, but you definitely provided me with a way to move forward!
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Announcements for Las Vegas Wedding on: March 06, 2007 07:02:17 AM
You could do cute gambling themed ones with dice & playing cards, roulette wheels, etc.

Or, maybe taking a cute from showgirls' headpieces, something sparkly and feathery?

Or, something related to the strip, kind of bright lights & neon signs

You could play off of the commercials about "what happens in vegas stays in vegas"!
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Plan a bridal shower?? But I've never BEEN to one! ack! on: March 06, 2007 06:34:33 AM
So my bestest friend is getting married in September, and kept sighing that she didn't want to have a shower b/c most of her friends don't live in the area, blah blah blah.  So that meant that she totally did want one, and a week ago I told her to hush up because she's having one whether she likes it or not, and as the maid of honor, I'm throwing it.

The problem is, I have only a marginal idea of what goes on at bridal showers!!  I've never actually been to one.  I feel like I have stuck my hand into something I know nothing about.  I am not one of those girly girls.  I don't even want a wedding, if/when I decide to marry my bf of 7+ years...

Anyway, I decided that it will be brunch, because I am likely footing the bill for the entire thing and I can make brunch stuff myself that is both vegetarian (I don't touch meat) and cheap.  There will be maybe 15 people (20 absolute max) since it will be at my apartment, which is not huge.  2 of the other bridesmaids live many states away, and only 1 of them will be possibly coming (don't get me started on the other); the 3rd bridesmaid is her sister, who lives nearby and I don't think I can depend on for anything (though maybe she'll surprise me!).

So now that you know the background... HELP!  I know I need to make invites, which I can do.  But themes?  Do I have to have one?  Nothing I've seen really sticks out as typically "her." Favors? Decorations? Games?  I don't know the first thing about this stuff!!  Is there anything else I should be thinking of?  EEK!
