1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Invite advice on: April 21, 2007 02:07:03 PM
My Boyfriend's Uncle is getting married this fall, and I've been invited to help plan things, I'm very excited!  The couple are looking for the most creative and cost effective way to do things.  Of course, the first item that comes up on the list is Invitations.

I was wondering if any of you who have, or are currently making your invites have any advice?  I have never done anything similar so any advice or good resources would be fantastic!
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Celtic Love Songs? on: February 05, 2007 09:42:35 AM
Money is tight and my boy's birthday is 10 days after Valentine's Day. I figured I'd make Valentine's Day a more of a handmade holiday (as it should be!) and save my money for a rockin' bday gift  Grin

To start I was thinking two CDs: one punk-ish and one celtic-ish.  No prob with the punky one, I have some songs and there have already been lots of great discussions on here.  I am, however, lost when it comes to Celtic type music.  Looking for lots of suggestions!

Here's a bit of background: he is really really into his Scottish heritage.   He is teaching himself to play the bagpipes, and has been fairly successful.  He loves any music with bagpipes (I'll defiantly be including Amazing Grace I think, one of his faves). He is also trying to teach himself Gaelic.  So any songs in Gaelic would be wicked good.  I know he likes Ashley MacIassic, Mary Jane Lamond, and Patricia Murray.  And loves any excuse to wear his kilt.  We've been together just over 3 years.

In a nutshell, if you know any songs that would fall into the Celtic category that would be considered love songs or have a romantic theme that would be great!
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Random Yarn Help on: January 03, 2007 01:56:15 PM
One of my best friends is having a baby boy in April.  I would really like to knit a baby blanket.  My Mom gave me this 'Baby-Luv' yarn that my Aunt bought and gave her.  It came in a package of 3 balls all ready to make a baby blanket... but no pattern!  I guess that's why it was sold off for 3$.

I have googled the name but came up with nothing.

I have 3 balls - 4.94oz(140g) each.  It's 87% acrylic, 10% nylon, and 3% polyester.  Uses 9us/5can needles.

I am wondering if anyone has some pattern suggestions.  I'm fairly new to knitting, so while I look at patterns that use a different type of wool (say, a specific type of Lion Brand) I am not sure if this wool would be compatible.  That's why I am asking for help.

Experienced knitters please help.
4  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / First ATC! on: December 01, 2006 08:26:48 AM
This is my first ever ATC, so any comments, suggestions, hints, etc will be very much appreciated!!!  The background is watercolor paper, silver shoe dangly thing from the dollar store, and words printed on my printer and cut apart.  Lyric from Tori Amos' Putting The Damage On.

If anyone happens to be interested in it please PM me.
Yay! Someone wanted my first ATC- Thank you!
(I'm so completely new to ATCs!!)
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Felt Clutches on: November 18, 2006 04:05:41 PM
Sorry the pics aren't very good.  I really suck at taking pictures.  These are the first two things I've ever knit on the round!

This one I made for myself.  The pattern is from a Crafts 'n Things magazine I bought a few months back.  It's made from Cascade 220 in Silver Grey (I don't remember the proper number!).  I like the one in the magazine better... it was done with grosgrain ribbon... unfortunately I couldn't find any!!!!

This clutch is from One Skein by Leigh Radford.  I made it with Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Bulky in Pine Shadows.  It is from my boyfriend's sister for Christmas.

Thoughts?  Feedback?  I'd appreciate some from anyone, but especially from seasoned knitters since I'm still pretty much a knitting noob!!!
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Simple Ribbon & Sanddollar Necklaces [4 img] on: March 30, 2006 07:28:02 PM
I know these are very basic and simple, but I still wanted to show them.  I am placing a couple in craftstores when the summer comes.  My area goes crazy in the summer with tourists, and I thought these were kind of unique (I've never seen them here anyways) and a pretty trinket some visitors might like to pick up.

Sorry, they were very hard to take pictures of! There is no "cosmetic" work done the them, just little coating to make them hard, the colours are natural.  And just for the record, no sanddollars were harmed during the making of this project! All were found already "passed-on" on a local beach.
[So sorry about the big pics!!!]
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Decorating a whole house! on: March 10, 2006 08:57:35 AM
My boyfriend of 2 years just bought a house.  It's very dated and we're both very excited to get the paint and material rolling! I was wondering if anyone has some favourite interior decorating resources they could share?  We plan on eventually re-decorating every room in the house (living room, kitchen, downstairs bar area, 2 baths, & 3 bedrooms).
Any resources that may have inspired your rooms would be a fantastic help!
Thanks everyone.
8  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / First Post! First Stencil! on: February 20, 2006 01:28:15 PM
Hi Everyone:
Long time lurker, first time poster. Here is my first stenciled shirt.  I'm not really a skull & cross bones kinda person but I thought this guy was so cute! (He's taken from Stencilry).  There was some bleeding.. I think maybe either the stencil wasn't stuck on well enough (I used freezer paper) or I used too much paint on my brush.  Or maybe because it was ribbed?  Anyway, constructive criticism/comments/advice all welcome please!

I hope the pictures work....
