1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: IT Crowd and Beatles 'Bubbles' on: June 20, 2010 04:53:03 PM
Thanks guys. I always get stuck on how to finish my stitches, and this just came out of a whim. I have a thing for circles and felt lately, and it just fitted perfectly (plus it was super easy to do)
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / IT Crowd and Beatles 'Bubbles' on: June 20, 2010 04:29:36 AM
I've been quite sick over the last week, which has led to an extraordinary amount of crafting for someone who rarely can find the effort to do so!

I had originally stitched up The Beatles in their 'Sgt Peppers' gear, inspired by a minipop picture I found. It was very tricky stitching...1 over 1 on 32 count linen...and I never knew how to finish them off. But eventually, the right combination of rain, sickness and fever brain inspired me to use lyrics and to finish it off!

After I had finished that one I moved onto The IT Crowd.

I finished them both off just using felt, glue and stitching. Am very happy with the finishing technique and am planning on creating a few more, all to do with my fandoms
3  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / NEW ZEALAND / Auckland craft shops on: January 30, 2009 11:52:16 PM
Hello everyone,

Well I've made the big move from Southland to Auckland and am beginning to get itchy fingers for crafting...problem is with such a big city I am finding it hard to find any real nice craft stores/events/groups. Anyone have any suggestions? I live in South Auckland (near Botany Downs) but am up for travelling anywhere for some good crafting.

A really old reply, but the trademe seller flatfrog sells bento boxes and other bento items on there
5  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Completed Projects / Re: First scrapbook - Leading up to the wedding (image heavy) on: March 10, 2008 02:35:30 PM
Thanks for all the nice comments! The font used was actually these 'Thickers' by American Crafts. They're just a pack of foam stickers (e.g. http://www.papergoodness.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/thicker-display.jpg). They definitely helped make the scrapbook and tie it all together! There's various different fonts as well, and colours (only thing is I have so many left over useless letters! 5 packs bought in the end! eek!)

First post in a long long time. I've been busy studying and working so haven't had much time for getting back in touch with crafts. But I'm making an attempt this year!

My sister had her wedding back in February and I decided it was a little bit of a waste to have all those photos on the computer and not to do anything with them. I've always wanted to try my hand at scrapbooking so I decided I'd make a 'Leading up to the wedding' scrapbook for her as a present. I'm off to Melbourne (where she lives) in 4 days so it's been completed just in time!

This photo was taken just as they had come back from Melbourne the fortnight before the wedding.

The invite, plus envelope, stamps and the brown papers is what was on the back of the invitation!

One of her hen's night tasks was the dj some songs, get a guy to take off his top and get 25 kisses from guys (photos horribly blurry in this shot)

Onto the Bridal Shower I hosted!

Recipes for the cupcakes, blini and parmesan crisps filled with avocado, lemon and chilli

One of the games was to make a dress out of toilet paper!

Mum made the bridesmaid dresses so I included some of the fabric in there (very difficult to attach!)

Their wedding cake, with seacow toppers (the groom lovessss seacows). Mum yet again made the three cakes (fruit cake, carrot cake and chocolate mud cake).

Before the wedding I took my sister and my English cousin (over for the wedding) out to Queenstown, a tourist mecca here in New Zealand, for a day. They went bungy jumping and we had a great time relaxing and shopping.

The last few days before the wedding involved my sister mowing the lawns, out at the beach and at the pub (yay!).

The rehearsal! This is one of the very first churches built in New Zealand. It used to be sheep yards but was restored 2 years ago.

Makeup time!

Hair time!

Also, there's some fabrics/needlework related items at H&J Smiths, a fabric store in Windsor (can't remember the address right now), a knitting/quilting store in the block opposite Farmers on Dee Street, a beading store near that and a scrapbook shop.

Cheesy Hope that's given you a good selection. Grin

Urg sorry for the late reply!

I knew I should have listened to my instinct that said 'look at the New Zealand part of the Craftster forrummmssss'.

Welcome to Invercargill! Hope the nice days we're having down here are to your agreement!

Though we don't have toooo many crafty stores, there's always Spotlight (which is lovely and central...just behind the Library/Grand Hall of Residence), and Whichcraft at 52 Kelvin Street. It's got a few more 'quaint' and less mass produced fabrics and products there...and the women are normally quite friendly. Plus they make the best fudge in the world there.
