knitting is really easy, and lots of fun to do in class. I do it all the time. Socks, scarves, hell, even sweaters, have all been done. Socks work especially well because you don't need a lot of materials for them. Just some needles and a (relatively) small ball of yarn.

You'll have to see as you go along about the length cazza. Try it on as you go and see how much it stretches to get around you. I'm knitting the 36" as well, and I added two inches to the length in order for it to get to the right length for me because it lost so much length when it was on.
