a bit about stringofpearls
What are your favourite fairy tales/characters/creatures? Fairy tale-wise probably the 12 Dancing Princesses, Allerleirauh,  and Blue Beard. As for characters, Little Red Riding Hood and creatures…hmm…I suppose mermaids are always cool. And I suppose transforded people count in here to (Jorinda and Joringle story and the birds-that sort of thing.) I also like the grasshopper character and Anansi.
What are your least favourite fairy tales/characters/creatures? I’m not sure. I think I like most of them.
What would be your top picks for stories to alter? and why? The little match girl makes me sad but I don’t know that I would change it; that kind of defeats the point.
What themes/styles would you love the alterations to take? I mostly would like to see any alterations on the stories; alternate ending fascinate me.
Any themes/styles you particularly dislike and would not like your partner to craft? If we could avoid a lot of pink that would be cool.
List any themes, stories, or characters you do not want to craft.
What are your favorite colors? In general blue and green but to wear I like to add black, yellow, and red.
What types of crafts do you do? Wood working, knitting, crochet, stamp carving, beading, clay, mosaic, book making, clothing alteration and design, cards, resin…I like to try new things.
What types of crafts would you be interested in receiving for this swap? I would love anything that is personal (have fun making it!) I would, however, prefer it to me something I can easily take with me when I move. I move a LOT.
Do you have any allergies? Smoke, perfume, and lavender.

I'd like to get an angel who can send asap so if you reckon you can... PM me!

FOR POSTING BIRTHDAY LISTS Sign-up date range:  Oct 1- Oct 31
FOR CHOOSING A BIRTHDAY WISH TO FULFILL Sign-up date range:  Oct 1- Oct 31
DATE TO SEND ITEMS BY:  2 weeks after you claim someone unless other arrangements are made ahead of time

Limited to a certain number of people?: No.
Restricted to people who all live in the same country? No.
You must be 16 years old to swap.

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES
- Is at least 18 years old: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES
- Participant has agreed that he/she is at least 16 years old: YES
- Participant lives in the United States: YES/NO
   - If yes, understands that Delivery Confirmation number is required for this swap: YES
   - If no, understands that a mailing receipt copy is required for this swap: YES

Details of swap:  This swap was organized so everyone can get something crafty for their birthday!  Please read the guidelines carefully.

1. This swap is list style, like the Ongoing Wishlist Swap, however it is NOT chain style. You can choose any birthday craftster’s list that is posted, rather than only picking the last one.

2. This is a medium item swap. A medium item is defined as a craft or recon etc that takes you two hours to complete OR $20 worth of Store Bought Items. (If bought from a thrift store, estimate at what it would have cost new.) However you may also substitute a few small items for a medium.

3. If your birthday is in swap's current month, you can post your birthday wish list for this month. To do that, you must first PM me with the swap questionnaire filled out and wait for approval.

4. Once you have been approved, you may post your list of things that you would like to receive. This is the format for your lists: First post your location and a short bio of yourself, then a list of crafted items you would like, then craft supplies (if any) and lastly you can put a few “extras” that aren’t crafted, things like candy or tea. Remember, the more items on your list, the more likely you are to be chosen. The minimum of items to post is five.  Also including your wists is a good way for people to get the idea of your likes and style.  If you have any allergies please type them in red in your bio section.

5. Please post lists only in this thread. Discussion can be done here in the combined discussion/gallery thread: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=323090.0

 6. Every birthday participant must make at least one claim. You may have up to two claims at a time, and then you can claim again once your items are received (not when you mail out). New swappers may only have one outstanding claim; they may claim again after their first claim is received. Claims need to be made from the "crafted" and "craft supplies" sections of a person's list. The "extras" are just that--extra items you may want to throw in if you are feeling generous, but claims cannot be solely extras. Keep it crafty :-) (I'm asking that if you are sending mostly supplies, that you craft a little something for the bday babe.)

7. You may get claimed more than once, but your minimum amount to claim is one.  It is possible you may not get claimed at all. In this case you will not be provided a swap angel; angels are only if you get flaked on. However I do my best to make sure everyone gets claimed by keeping track of how many times each person is claimed. If possible try to pick someone who has been claimed 0 times versus someone who has been claimed 3 times.

8. If it is not your birthday but you would like to send a birthday present out you may do so.  Fill out the “non-birthday swapper” questionnaire and send it to me for approval.  Birthday swappers who receive a present from a non-birthday swapper must send a snail mail thank you card.  You will not receive feedback until I hear from the other swapper that they have received a thank you card.

 9. When you choose to fulfill a birthday wish, PM both me (craftydeb) AND the chosen craftster.  At that time, please request the address for where to send it.  After that you have 2 weeks to get the item out the door.

10. It is super important for everyone to keep good communication.  It is REQUIRED that you PM me when you've sent and of course, don't forget the DC#.  It is REQUIRED that when you receive, you PM me and publicly announce in the gallery (even if you don't have pictures).

11. When one of your items is chosen, please cross it out so that it is easier for others to see what has been chosen.
(It wouldn't hurt to thank the person at this time either.)

12. If you are sending late you must PM me by your send-out date.  If your send-out date comes and goes and you don’t PM me, you will receive “poor communication” feedback.  It should not be my job to hunt you down and find out what is going on.

Please make sure to put “October Birthday Swap” or something equivalent in the subject line on all communications.  The most important thing to me is communication.  Please PM me when you send and receive, and please reply to my PM's to you in a timely manner.

- If no, understands that a mailing receipt copy is required for this swap: YES

Details of swap:
This swap is continuing the tradition of reclaiming the fairy tales that we like best!  Who hasn't read a tale that is pretty but not quite right?  And who hasn't just wanted to write their own version? So get out your editorial tools and let's go to town.  Vampire Red Riding Hood?  Mermaids singing in Snow White?  A Briar Rose that actually frees herself?

There are countless stories out there to choose from. Some more obvious choices are; Disney, Grimm, Mother Goose, and Aesop, but you can also choose from the wide variety of lesser known stories or even explore myths. Please include a link or description for your partner if you chose a lesser known story/character.

In this swap we will be altering fairy tales/characters that our partners like and crafting based on themes they give us.  This is a 6 point swap.  This roughly translates to one large item, one medium item and one small item.  There is a guide at the end of the post for how to estimate sizes/points.  The points/sizes are a guide to make sure that the standard of crafting in the swap stays high... so really the only absolute requirements are that you make things that are based on your partners preferences and that you give it your all.

The Rules for this Swap:

1. Communication
Please PM me once a week to confirm that you're still alive and crafting (this is so you're not required to be chatty on the thread if you don't want to be)
Please PM me if your partner has not been in touch for over a week (so I know of potential flakers earlier rather than later)
Please PM me if you have any concerns about the swap or your partner or both.
Please let me know of any circumstances that affect your ability to participate in the swap as soon as you know of them.
2. Sending and receiving
If you're sending within the US, you are required to have a DC number.
If you're sending internationally, you are required to keep your receipt as proof.  It is also a good idea to take photos prior to sending.
Please PM me and your partner when you send or receive a package.
Please post photos of what you receive in the gallery.
3. Feedback
Your feedback will note:
a) whether you sent on time or not
b) whether you communicated adequately with me and your partner
c) whether you kept to the swap rules
If you're talking to your partner and keeping me posted, feedback will reflect that, so no reason to stress!

There is a long crafting period so use your time wisely!  Take the time to get to know your partner and craft to their needs/desires/preferences.  The more you get to know them the more fun it gets and the better the chances of everyone having a blast!

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

8  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 42 ENTRIES / Sakura Lampshade in shades of white! on: September 05, 2009 01:06:59 AM
Here's the completed lampshade with the light on...

now for the story...
I'd told my sister that I'd make her a lamp for her room.  The theme for her room is white and pink with a Japanese boudoir theme.  So when I saw this challenge I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

I started out with plastic cutting mats ($5), tin foil ($2), white and silver glitter ($3) and 3 sprays of silver leaves ($6).  So spent a total of $15 new zealand on the lamp. So under $10 US!

I cut out many, many flower shapes out of the cutting mats.  Then I cut out slightly smaller shapes out of the tin foil.  I ended up with: 18 flowers with foil flowers on them, 15 flowers with white glitter, 12 flowers with silver glitter and 60 clear flowers.
I used the bases of the sprays of silver leaves to make two circular rings to form the base of the lamp.
Then I made several streams of flowers and stuck them on the top ring so that they fell on below the next ring (which is wider).

So this is what I ended up with!

I was fairly happy with it and as you can see from  this photo, so was the sister!!

oh and one more, just coz it is pretty.

comments most appreciated. xx
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / My First dress! with mustard flowers on: February 08, 2009 04:24:10 PM
Hi all,

I would like to share my excitement over the first dress I've made.  I followed Newlook 6675.  Was terrified of using a proper pattern in the first place and then had to make all these changes to actually maket it fit my body shape!  But it was quite fun and I have a pretty summer dress that is not off a rack.  Ha.

Me striking a pose:

This one shows the fabric and the zip of which I am inordinately proud!

Comments/criticisms welcome!

10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / First ever 'Tree of life' pendant in autumnal colours on: July 17, 2008 03:40:38 PM
Hi all,

I made this for a swap but it has been received so I'm okay to post.  I used this tut and gypsymuse's alterations.  I used agate, some amber, some glass beads and some carnelian to give it autumn shades

Not bad for a first attempt?  Feedback appreciated.
