5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Cutest cake-topper ever!! on: September 04, 2007 10:24:11 AM
So, I was absolutely in love with these adorable cake toppers made by Patch NYC - one problem - they were $500!!!  Crushed, I almost shelved a cake topper altogether...until I decided to ask my crafty friend if she could mimic the topper.  Thankfully, she said she would love to and did an amazing job!

good likeness no?  Cheesy

I love my custom friend-made topper so much better than the expensive designer one...yayy!!
6  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects / Barack Obama Hoodie for my Mom on: December 16, 2006 10:20:02 AM
My mom is all about Sen. Obama and asked me if I could make her a shirt that she saw on Macy Gray.  The only photo I could find of the shirt was this

Based off of that, this is what I came up with in Photoshop

and I transfered it onto a hoodie for her x-mas present.

...sorry, the picture's kinda crummy.

I hope she'll like her present...and think that this looks close enough to the original!!  Happy hols!

8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Feminist Toolbox (Women use tools too dernit!!) on: February 23, 2006 08:48:25 PM
My good friend is a big time feminist...and loves to be able to do things that are normally considered male activities.  So, I thought the perfect gift would be to create a feminist toolbox.  I bought a plain toolbox at Target and decoupaged it with various feminist pictures, quotes, and photos of strong women role models.

The quote says: Remember, Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did but backwards and in high heels.

Here's the backside:

Katharine Hepburn: If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun

I got inspired by all the supercool magnets on this site and used some of those glass marbles to magnify various pics.

I also added a few embellishments on some of the tools inside.

I hope she likes it, tell me what you think!!
9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Alternative use for a Beer Bottle on: February 23, 2006 06:37:37 PM
As a college student, i realized that there are wayyy to many beer bottles available to NOT do something creative with one.  Soo, when my roomate's birthday came around I decided the time was ripe.  She happens to desperately desire to be a tremendous chef, thus, I made her a unique lil' bottle of olive oil.
I crushed some garlic cloves and let them steep inside the bottle.

I decoupaged the outside of the bottle with tissue paper and vintage pics dealing with olive oil or garlic.  Then, i covered it with a layer of light pink nail polish and sprinkled glitter while the polish was still wet.  I used a wine cork as a stopper.
I think she liked it...i might hafta try it for myself if i find the time.
10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Knitting Bag...1st post! on: February 02, 2006 05:02:59 PM
So, my bf's b-day is today and i just completed a knitting bag for her...cuz she loves all things knitting/crocheting.
Materials:
canvas bag from a hobby store, iron on letters, some material for a pocket, ribbon that looks like measuring tape, a needle, thread, mini-scissors, and a necklace chain

I got the idea for the "knit happens" phrase from a post on here.

I know that there's not a whole lot of talent involved in making this, but i thought i'd share just cuz it's a supereasy superquick project.
