I am in an art studio class where we get to pick what we do/make. Now, what I'm wondering is whether or not I'd be able to convince my art teacher to let me crochet. Should I even bother trying to convince him or just stick with something else?
And if I should try to convince him, what are some things I can tell him about to get him to think of crocheting as art? I'd prefer it not to be clothing because I'm pretty sure that would make him shoot it down. And I don't just want cutesy little amigurumi animals. Can anybody give me some ideas?
So I'm taking a class this semester, called Studio Art. And we have to come up with something that we'll do all semester. Not neccessarily one big project, but all of the projects should be the same kind of thing. Like you can do drawing and paintings or stained glass or silkscreening.
The problem is, I don't know what to do. I need something that I either know how to do, or can learn quickly (like within a few days). I want it to be something kind of unique. But I can't do silkscreening or stained glass because I don't know how to. And I think I may get bored of just drawing/painting everyday for a whole semester. So I was wondering if you lovely people could please give me some suggestions?
This is a bit early for all of them, but I'd like to come up with ideas a bit in advance. And it's only about two months away, so it's not that far off.
First of all, October 9. The boyfriend's birthday. Turning 16. His favourite colour is purple. He's into mostly metal and jpop/jrock. His favourite band is the pillows. (Japanese band) He loves them. And their little mascot type thing, Buster ( a little dog/bear/something). He's really into computers. Major gamer. Pretty nerdy. He likes World of Warcraft, CounterStrike Source, and most games involving shooting people. He also likes Katamari Damacy a lot. Reads quite a bit. Has a bunch of Magic (The Gathering) cards because he used to play and he's recently gotten into it again. He also likes Invader Zim and JTHM. I think a mushy gift would be ok, but I don't want to go too over-board. A little mushy-good. A lotta mushy-probably not so good. Gifts I've made for him in the past: little stuffed kitty that he really liked, little stuffed Buster (mentioned above), shirt with a Buster stencil (he wears it a lot), and other things I can't think of right now. And, as he tells me, his favourite thing in the whole wide world is me. He's pretty weird. And he knows it.
Next, October 18. One of my very best friends' 16th birthday. She's really sweet. Very outgoing. Loves being friends with everybody. Pretty good sense of humour. Very religious. Pretty trendy. Likes all different kinds of music. Don't have a whole lot of pictures of her/me and her, so a scrapbook type thing or something probably wouldn't work very well. A sentimental-type gift would probably go over fairly well. I'm thinking maybe one of those jars full of pieces of paper saying reasons why she's awesome/I love her.
October 21. My brother's 18th birthday. Likes music quite a bit. Mostly indie kinda stuff. He's got really long hair. Doesn't have a car, so anything to do with cars is pretty much out. Nothing too sentimental or anything. He likes cooking. He reads a lot.
November 1. My mommy's 50th birthday. I love her. She's not only my mommy, but one of my very best friends. She's a wonderful lady, and she deserves something nice. She's very crafty and really good at cooking/baking. Though, I'm not sure how much she likes cooking/baking. I want to give her something that reflects how awesome she is and how much I love her. But I really don't have any good ideas. I'm thinking of maybe taking her out to dinner or something as part of her gift.
Ok, so I need gift ideas. I've been looking all over Craftster, and can't seem to find anything.
A little about him: He's in high school. He's a computer gamer (Likes stuff like "World of Warcraft", "Counter Strike: Source", "Quake") He likes games on Xbox, PS2, and stuff like that, too (Especially Katamari Damacy). He LOVES the Pillows (A Japanese band, if you didn't know) He likes FLCL, and quite a bit of anime. And anything on Adult Swim. He's a pretty weird little boy (I'm not complaining).
I've already made him a little stuffed cat (which I'm pretty sure he likes a lot), and stenciled him a T-shirt, and am in the process of making him a stuffed Buster (dog thing that is associated with The Pillows) that he knows about and has seen.
He's not super-sentimental or anything, so I don't want to do anything too cheesy.
