1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Welcome back gift? on: October 19, 2012 09:10:42 PM
So my boyfriend is gonna be in Colorado on a hunting trip for two weeks. He's sleeping out in the woods the whole time, gonna be carrying big heavy loads in and even heavier loads out (they're elk hunting - big animals!)

And I would like to show him that I missed him and was thinking about him, so I would like to make him a little "welcome back, relax" care package. I know he's gonna be tired when he gets back an he'll be dying to snuggle up and relax, so stuff related to that would be great. But I'm having a hard time coming up with anything, other than crocheting a big comfy blanket, but I won't have the time to get it done before he gets back.

Any ideas?
2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Xbox 360 Elite Console on: February 25, 2010 05:33:11 PM
My boyfriend's xbox recently crapped out on him. He tried fixing it and it didn't seem to want to be fixed, so it has officially been given up on. He's quite sad. But, on the bright side, he's given me permission to find something to do with it!

We'd like to keep the case in tact (for the most part) and I'd really like if I could find some way to make it into some sort of decoration for his bedroom. But I can't think of anything  Huh

So, does anyone have any ideas? Even the vaguest of suggestions will help. I just need something to go on!

Thanks everybody!  Grin
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Need Lots and Lots of Fast/Cheap Gift Ideas! on: December 11, 2009 07:43:41 PM
Ok, I'm on a pretty limited budget and, as I'm sure you've already realized, Christmas is coming up reeeeally fast. So I need cheap and quick ideas for people.

My mom - Very crafty; loves coffee; not very girly; likes simple, practical things. She's amazing and I'd really like to give her something amazing, but I'm drawing a blank.

My brother (21) - Very into music; don't see him very often (living in a different city with his girlfriend because of school); sort of stylish/hipster-ish; drinks but not a toooonnnn.

My boyfriend (18) - Gamer; likes music; loves anime; sorta mushy, but not openly. I've already sort of got an idea for him though, I'm just not sure I'll finish it in time.  I'm working on a crocheted blanket (kind of like the Super Mario Raccoon blanket that's somewhere on Craftster) where it's going to be a pixelated image and each pixel will be a small granny square. It's going to be Master Chief.

My mom's boyfriend - Not very sentimental or into celebrating Christmas; we give each other a hard time a lot; I'd prefer some sort of gag gift.

The best friends - One female(21)/one male(19). Both have similar tastes in stuff. Like music; adult swim; Invader Zim; Female is pretty crafty, male is very into music/playing guitar; I have an idea for both of them. For her: Gir (from Invader Zim) hat, kinda like one I've seen on here, but probably the robot version of Gir. For him: Fingerless gloves.

Now for my dad's side of the family. I separated this because I wanted to make it clear that these people don't like me much. They put up with me and pretend to like me during holidays. And since I don't have much time, none of them are getting anything big. This doesn't apply to my dad, he actually does like me.

My dad - Likes Peanuts (the comic, like with Snoopy and Charlie Brown, not the food); likes golfing; likes watching football (especially the Packers); likes cookies/baked goods/taco bell; works at the post office; would pretty much like anything I got for him.

My stepmom - Girly; likes lotions, soaps, other girly smelling stuff; likes football (especially the Packers); used to scrapbook, not sure if she still does.

My grandmother - I really don't even know what to say about her...

My grandfather - Likes watching golf, but can't really golf himself anymore because of health problems; has emphysema; likes computers. He's actually a really, really sweet man.

My aunt - Likes girly stuff; loves spending money/acting like she has a lot of money...

My uncle - Likes computers; golf; football, I think?

My other uncle - Likes watching football; old music; lives on his own, but is mentally handicapped so he needs help with quite a bit of stuff.

My cousins - One male(19)/one female(14?) - Both pretty stuck-up; into sports (both soccer, and she likes swimming, unless something's changed since I last saw them); they get everything they want, so I really don't know what to get them...

And I'd like to think of something generic and small to hand out to random friends at school and stuff.

Sorry this list is so long, any help is greeeeatly appreciated!
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Dressform on: September 12, 2009 08:17:40 PM
I needed to come up with a way to display my scarves and neckwarmers, so I made a dressform from chickenwire and papier mache and I'm really excited about it!

That's a really blurry picture, but it's my boyfriend holding the form when it was just chickenwire. Actually, I think it's still missing a shoulder.

And that's the front after a few layers of papier mache. The chest ended up getting really flattened, but I did something about that later.

And that's from the side, taken at the same time as the last one.

And that's what I did about the flattened chest. It's an old bra that didn't fit me well anymore, stuffed with poly-fil. The bra was papier mache'd over.

And that's the finished dressform, after adding a layer of brownish paper towel stuff, and then putting a shirt on it.

I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Sorry for the bad pictures, they were taken with my camera phone.

So what do you guys think?
5  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Product Opinions? Neckwarmers, Scarves, Etc. Kinda Image Heavy on: August 25, 2009 10:42:39 AM
Hi there! I just wanted to know what people think about some of my stuff. Do you like it? Dislike it? Are there things you think should be fixed? Do you think anyone would actually be willing to buy this stuff?

And also, I've been having a problem with pricing. I know that the rule is generally an hourly wage, multiplied by the number of hours spent making it, plus cost of materials. But I'm afraid if I do that, I'll be charging more than people would be willing to pay. What do you think I should charge for any of this stuff?

Pink scarf. Soft and pretty chunky. About 6 ft long. Or 7, if you include the fringe.

Blue, pink, yellow popcorn skinny scarf. About 10 ft long.

Baby pink mesh stitch scarf. About 5 ft long.

Multi-colored hat and neckwarmer set.

Black ribbed hat with dangling pom-pom.

Rose neckwarmer.

Rainbow hat with pom-pom.

I'd appreciate any comments you have. Thanks.

7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Anniversary Gift for Boyfriend? on: March 30, 2008 10:13:31 PM
On April 20th, my boyfriend and I will have been dating for one year. I know, it's not all that long, but he means the world to me and I really want to do something special for him. Unfortunately, I can't seem to think of anything. So, I was wondering if anyone else might have some. I looked through almost all of the Generic Boyfriend Gift Thread and that helped a bit, but nothing in particular really stuck out. Maybe because I was going through over 70 pages of really good ideas.

Anyways, some things about him:

He likes DDR, anime, food, playing hacky sack (I just gave him one that I made him recently). Plays guitar, likes a bunch of different music. Doesn't drive. Lately, he's been playing Puzzle Pirates allllll the time (if anybody knows what that is) and he's gotten me addicted to it, too. Likes videogames (Halo, Guitar Hero, other stuff). He has an Xbox 360 and a Nintendo DS. Doesn't like cases for his ipod, cell phone, etc.  Sometimes he's really cheesy and romantic, and sometimes he's not, so I'm not sure how well corny stuff would go over, but I don't think anything corny would be a total disaster. I don't have a whole lot of pictures of us, mostly because I don't like having my picture taken.

And I don't have a lot of money to spend right now. But I can crochet pretty well, I can knit okay, I can sew, and I can learn to do other stuff pretty quick if I can get access to supplies. And I've got about $40 to spend.

Any ideas?
8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Need gift by Wednesday :( on: September 30, 2007 12:27:58 AM
Ok, so I'm terrible with procrastinating.

I need a gift by October 3rd (this Wednesday!!).  I've been trying to come up with something for weeks and I'm just not really getting anywhere. So, please, please, pleeeease help me?

It's my boyfriend's birthday. We've been going out for about six months.
-He's turning 17.
-His favorite color is blue, and his favorite flowers are roses, and he likes dragons.
-He's a total anime nerd. Pretty much loves anything Japanese and is trying to teach himself to speak Japanese.
-Loves music. Pretty much any kind of music.
-Plays DDR a lot.
-Takes a karate class.
-Plays guitar.
-Loves videogames, especially HALO 3.
-Really likes drawing.

Since there really haven't been any holidays in the 6 months we've been dating, I haven't made him a whole lot of presents. I've made him a hacky sack (which he seemed to like), a little crocheted dragon (didn't seem to like so much), and little letter magnets so he can write little notes to people if he wants (he seems amused by those).

He knows that I'm really into crafty stuff and totally supports me in whatever stuff I do, so I'm not too concerned about whether or not me making something will weird him out. And he's definitely ok with being mushy, as long as it's not completely out there for everyone to see (he's really shy, but he's gotten less so about mushy stuff since dating me)

He calls me his sunshine and I call him my Jer-bear. (My name is Dawn, so the sunshine thing kind of fits and his name is Jeremiah so Jer-bear is kind of sort of a shortened version of it.

The one thing I can think of to get him is a lizard, but I'm not really sure I've got the money because I'm pretty sure buying the tank and stuff for a lizard can get pretty expensive.

Oh, and I've got a budget of about $15-$20 right now, but I might be able to borrow a few bucks if I need to.

Any suggestions? Please oh please oh please, I'll love you forever.
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Gifts for Four People. on: July 16, 2007 08:10:07 PM
Hi. So, October is a pretty busy month for me, in terms of birthdays. I know, I know, it's a couple months away, but I really want to do something special for all of them, and I want to make sure I've got enough time to do so.

First, there's my boyfriend's on  October 3rd.
He's the sweetest most amazing guy in the entire world. (Okay, I'm sure most girl's think that about their guy, but he really is, I swear Grin ) And he's kind of a goofball, but he's a cute, sweet, romantic goofball. We've been together since April.
His favorite color is blue. He's really tall and skinny. He doesn't wear jewelry. And his favorite kind of flowers are roses.
He likes music. He's almost always listening to his ipod unless he's talking to somebody. He mostly likes rock, j-rock, and some R&B-ish stuff.
He's always carrying around a hacky sack, but I'd rather not get him a hacky sack, seeing as the one he uses now is the one I made him.
He's definitely an anime nerd. I'd list his favorites, but he's got about a billion. Tongue
He spends a loooot of time at the arcade playing DDR. He's amazing at it, but I can't really think of a whole lot of DDR related things to give him.
He likes videogames, but I'm not really sure which ones he plays. I know he likes Halo and other shoot shoot kill kill kinda games.
He likes drawing, and he's kind of teaching himself to play the guitar, but I don't know how serious he is about it.
The only thing I've made him in the past is a couple of hacky sacks, so I don't think I want to do any kind of hugely elaborate mushy gift. I want to ease him into the whole crafted gift thing.

Next is my best friend, on October 18.
She's the sweetest girl I know.
She's very stylish and pretty trendy. Very Christian. Very girly. Likes driving a whole lot. Likes photography. Plays softball. Likes pretty much any kind of music.
She'll be turning 17. Not really sure what other info to give about her. Last year for her birthday, I crocheted her a blanket and matching scarf.

Next is my brother on October 21.
We don't always get along the greatest, but he's a really awesome guy.
Very into music. Especially the kinda indie/unknown stuff.
Likes anime quite a bit.
Likes computers. Especially his laptop.
He's leaving for college at the end of the summer, so this may have to be something I can send to him. Or else wait to give it to him until the next time I'd see him (probably Thanksgiving or Christmas)

Last, but definitely not least, my mom on November 1st (ok, not October, but close enough)
She's the most amazing woman I know. She's my hero.
She's super crafty. She's always doing things for other people, and not nearly enough for herself.
She's not very girly. Her favorite color is red. She's lost a lot of weight in the last year or so, and I'd kind of like to maybe give her some new clothes, since she's still wearing the same big ol' t-shirts she used to wear. But she's not really the type to wear any kind of clothes that aren't old and worn. I think they make her feel like she can't play around because she doesn't want to get them dirty. I'm thinking I might have part of her gift be a gift card for a clothing store or something? I'm not really sure though.

Any suggestions would be absolutely amazing. Thanks. And my apologies for such a loooong post. Embarrassed
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Just because I love you gifts. on: May 28, 2007 10:19:03 AM
I want to make gifts for a couple of very special people in my life, but don't know what to make them, so I was hoping someone here could help.

First, my mom. She's been pretty stressed out lately, and I just wanted to do something nice for her. I love her with all my heart. She's the best mommy in the whole wide world. She's really crafty. She would probably most appreciate something either very practical or very cute/weird. She's not very girly, and she doesn't wear jewelry or use scented candles or anything like that. Any suggestions?

Second is my boyfriend. He's a total sweetheart and I want to do something nice for him, to show him that I care about him and that I'm thinking about him.
He loves DDR. Carries his hacky sack with him just about everywhere. Really likes music, mostly rock and some rap/hip-hop and j-rock. Has an ipod, but it's already got a case. Likes anime and stand-up comedy (really likes quoting Dane Cook). Really tall and skinny.
He's just about the sweetest guy you'll ever meet, and he kind of likes mushy/romantic kind of stuff, but he's really shy and gets embarrassed kind of easily, so if I do anything mushy, I don't want to go overboard with it. Especially since he lives with a mom and three brothers that like to pick on him. Actually, it would be pretty nice if it were something small enough that he could put it somewhere that only he'd see it, but that's not a requirement.

I'm kind of low on cash, but I'm completely willing to put tons of time and effort into whatever I do for either of them. They're both completely wonderful.

Thanks.
