yay, thanks for posting this!  A while back, I saw bowls similar to these that were very expensive, and I had been wondering how to do it ever since.

yay, I like the binding!  I'm taking a Japanese bookbinding class, and that looks like the Kangxi style. 
As far as cutting paper goes--for making a book with many signatures, I like to get a large piece of paper, then fold and tear it down with a bone folder or a paper knife (which don't always give clean-looking edges).  This option might be more practical than buying a big paper cutter.
