1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Lace Cast-on on: June 04, 2014 07:52:06 PM
Hello Craftsters!

I am trying to make a feather and fan scarf using malabrigo lace yarn and size 8 straight needles. Normally, my cast on is the long tail, but I need something stretchier due to the shape of the stitches.

I have watched videos, read picture tutorials, and tried the lace cast on multiple times, but Every time I do it, it comes out extremely tight! I have a feeling this may be due to my yarn/needle ratio, but for the laciness, I think it may be necessary.

Does anyone have any tips for how to start this scarf? maybe a different cast on I should try?

Would you be able to post a picture of the needle area when you have it threaded? It might help us to visualize what might be going on!
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: stash bust multiple weights? (knit or crochet) on: September 09, 2013 12:40:44 AM
Thank you! I posted this inquiry on the knitting board as well, and I saw a beautiful start to a multi colored blanket, and it seems that that is the way I may go.

I would definitely love to hear more ideas though, as I am SURE I will have lots of scraps!

Thank you very much for posting the picture! It gives me a wonderful idea of what such an array of colors can add to a project! So far, I have been trying to get yarns in coordinating colors, but I fear down the road, that may be extremely difficult/ Glad to know it will look beautiful!

I have actually been on island for almost a full year now. I don't have a whole lot of time outside of work, and unfortunately I go on hiatus from crafting too much because of it, but it would be lovely to meet up with people to be crafty!
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / stash bust multiple weights? (knit or crochet) on: August 03, 2013 11:11:40 PM
So, I have this project that I have posted about before. I am making a project, either knit or crochet, that will include yarn from all over the world as I hit various ports on my eventually Navy deployment.

I want to make one thing to include all of the yarns, but I don't know where to start with a pattern! I am thinking that a scarf or a blanket would be best

I figure this is super similar to a stash busting project, since it will include lots of colors and weights and generally not quite matching yarn.

Does anyone have a favorite multi-yarn project they would like to share?

This makes me think of Ms. Frizzle, and that makes it somehow magically more awesome than it already is! That pattern looks so great! I love that it has pockets, and the fabric is just perfect!
I am sure you'll get that easel eventually Wink
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / One project with different types of yarn (Around the World) on: August 18, 2012 09:26:48 PM
So I am in the Navy now, and I have decided that I am going to get yarn from every single place I go during my service. I want to knit (or crochet) all of this yarn into one project, I believe a blanket.

Since i can't guarantee getting the same size/type of yarn from wherever I go, does anyone know of a pattern for anything that I could use to incorporate everything? I was thinking blocks or stripes, but even that doesn't guarantee I can get the gauge to match!
