422  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re:Garage sale signs? on: April 27, 2004 01:16:30 PM
We made snazzy road signs that we nailed to telephone poles en route to our sale...

We made them in the shape of tags....for the string part that would be on a tag we strung through lots of colorful ribbons...It seemed to pull lots of people down to our sale...We got lots of positive feedback from "customers"

The only trick is not to put the signs up till the morning of your sale or your gonna have strange people (early birds) waiting around your house (personal experience) and take the signs down right after your sale is over for the same reason... Wink

we separated all of our items into sections...housewar es, jewelry, clothes, toys etc

the best thing to do is really spread all of your items out so they are visible....put down a tarp on the lawn and fold out the clothes, baskets...etc, the things we did that with seemed to sell more

Make sure that you advertise that you are fundraising....peop le usually spend more if they know where the $$ is going.

Good Luck with your sale....they are always so much fun!   ~M

426  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re:backstitching? on: April 16, 2004 10:48:29 AM
When I sew appliques I try to backstitch slowly by turning the dial by hand instead of trying to slow down on the pedal.....it turns out much neater for me!  I only do about 2 to 3 stiches.
(I learned from many mistakes with a major glob of thread in one area...im sure you guys have been there right?)

And...Brooklyn Craft....I saw your avatar and could not contain my laughter...Im in a university computer lab so People were staring at me!  It brightened my day    ~M
427  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re:How can I make this? on: April 16, 2004 10:02:18 AM
Drama Queen...
I have one of these rulers....It came from a hobby shop (and it was no $34 bucks either  Wink)....and it seems to me to be flexible enough to make into a cuff shape....
If you could get your hands on a rubber or rawhide mallet and slowly bang it into shape against a pipe or railing to round the ends over...

the edges of my little ruler are a bit pointy and sharp so you may need to do some filing (w/ a metal file) to protect your skin

will you please post some pics if you make one of these? id love to see your results    ~M
428  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re:Yellowing Marble Magnets... on: April 16, 2004 09:48:34 AM
thanks guys!    Wink
Anyone use E6000 glue?? or Gorilla glue....Id like to know if anyone has used either of these and if they are good?

Gorilla glue fashions itself as the "stongest glue on earth"......like to know what cha think?
Maybe it would be good to use for microbead work...   ~M
429  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re:wrist band frenzy! on: April 16, 2004 09:07:40 AM
WoW!!!  They seem so well made and they look very professional.  Your details are very neat ( the stiching around the heart & star...the way the appliques are attached)

You could make matching pins of appliques to go with these too!

I think they will sell very well because they are pleasantly unique!  Nice to see a fresh project! Wink  Bravo!  ~M
