3  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Woollen ,gorgeous boys coat...pics heavy indeed! on: December 17, 2008 04:08:17 PM
I finally got my act together to make my sweet little boys winter coat, with illness and chaos here I found the wholething so calming and enjoyable!  Grin

It is the Ottobre Rosy Red pattern from Winter 2008 ,but heavily adapted for a boy....seriously it would have been easier to have made my own patter,LOL!!

It is lined in owl fabric in the brown colourway,to match his trousers(....that was pure chance he was wearing them!) Wee leather coated buttons and a hidden layer of very thick squishy polar fleece  Wink

I am fairly partial to the cute set in pockets of this pattern I have to say

Not to mention the cute lining
 Wink

Thanks so much for taking time to look!!!   Grin
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Vintage British birds tea towel to adorn a skirt??? YES!! PIC HEAVY! on: December 17, 2008 04:00:04 PM
So my parents had this very kitch tea towel my whole life,it stole it one day ,and petted it and wanted it to live a better life,it was so splendid to dry tea cups  Wink

I just could never think of a way to make it more splendid

Until I decided that appliqueing the birds onto a skirt I had cut out and ready to sew, from teal baby cord could be the answer to my re incarnation of the tea towel

I free hand machine embriodered the birds in the end to hold them down, rather than satin stitch applique,I used embrodery theads which are so shiny and bring the birds alive, in my opinion  Smiley

I finished the hem on the skirt with emerald green satin bias tape and some very ancient ric rac, which again....I may have stolen from my Mums sewing basket,I guess she once put it on a dress for me  Wink

Some close ups of the birds now  Grin

The bias tape trimmed facing pleases me too

THanks for looking i would love to hear, read your thoughts on this skirt!!!
