1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Would you like fries with that? on: October 20, 2005 06:16:01 PM
I love these adorable plastic food charms... Donuts, ice cream, chinese take out, and hamburger joint goodies. This was a very quick project to make a pair of earrings and a necklace! The food is all new stuff, but the toothpaste tubes and pepsi are "vintage" (70s or 80s anyway- not usually my idea of vintage, but they are older than new anyway!)- I bought the toothpaste when I was in 7th grade and have been hoarding it ever since trying to decide what to do with it... Now I teach 7th grade and finally made earrings. Haha.

Now a question-- Should I make a "set" with the two fries earrings and the hamburger necklace, or one fry, the pepsi, and the hamburger? I only have one pepsi, so I can't have a Pepsi and fry on each earring...  Sad

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Petty Pin Up Girls Decoupage on Metal- New Purse/Lunch Box/Case... on: September 10, 2005 08:42:43 PM
I have one of these my husband painted for me that I use a purse, but I sold one once and a man told me he used it for cds in his hot rod, so... ?? I guess it's a purse but it has other uses. Smiley It's metal- our first attempt decoupaging metal. Used the same process as normal. I think it came out very well. Looks nice and smooth. I wasn't sure if metal would work as well as wood, but it seemed to work better because there's no grain to battle with. The painting on the box (it was white) was done by my husband, using the technique where you remove some paint with a plastic bag to get the lighter areas. These are all images from a tool calendar George Petty did in the 50s...

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Bettie Page Wooden Box Purse on: September 04, 2005 07:51:15 PM
My husband and I have been on a decoupaging kick for the past couple of weeks. We covered a floor lamp with pinups after being inspired while making this purse. It's a new wooden box purse I got at Michaels, with the handle already attached. We painted it and added the pictures of Bettie Page to the front, back, and sides. I didn't put pictures of the sides because the pictures didn't come out that great (The flash on our camera is broken and we have to use outdoor lighting, which makes everything look wretched).

4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Ugly Old Lamp Revamped with Pin Up Girls on: September 04, 2005 07:46:07 PM
I bought this ugly gold floor lamp at a yard sale for $3.00. It's the kind with the round table around the middle. We primed it with rusty metal primer (by Rustoleum) and painted it with Krylon "Chrome" paint. My husband actually did the pin ups- He was up decoupaging until 3:00 am, which I find adorable, but also hilarious because he is all about being macho and manly. We printed the pictures "wallet size" and he put multiple layers, covering the whole table in 40s and 50s pin up girls. He put his favorites on top so they are uncovered. After the multiple layers of mod podge and the two go-overs with 220 and 400 sandpaper, we sprayed it 3 times with Krylon triple thick varnish. The result it below!! Smiley
My picture of the entire lamp is bad; we've put the shade back on and have it in our bedroom for now. We're going to be moving into our first home in about 2 weeks so we have been busy creating unique pieces. This will end up in what we're going to call the computer room. It's supposed to be the dining room but we thought that was a waste of space considering we always eat in front of the TV so we're keeping the table in the kitchen. Anyway, rambling, on to the photos!!!

5  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Help Homeless Kids-- More Tote Bags and Purses! on: July 12, 2005 06:37:08 PM
Thanks to those of you who bought my totes and purses last year! I have more purses and tote bags to offer, with ONE HUNDRED (100%) of the money you pay going directly to help homeless and/or severly impoverished children. I even pick up the shipping cost myself! Here's the deal: My sister is a teacher at what is called an "early intervention program" at the Raleigh Rescue Mission in Raleigh, NC. She works with a group of children whose parents are either living at the Rescue Mission or who have lived there recently. Many of these children have been abused or neglected and all of them have serious problems already at less than age 1 up to age 5. The children's development center has a budget, but they are always in need of donations for craft supplies, juice boxes, diapers, and other necessities, but especially FIELD TRIPS. These children have little or no exposure to anything outside their sordid home lives apart from the CDC, so taking them on field trips is really important. Anyway, last year I sold several of my purses to help fund their field trips. Pictures and "details" about the pictures are below-- Each purse is $20, including shipping, and as I said 100% of this money goes straight to the Children's Development Center. (I'll add more to these later, I'm at my sister's in Raleigh so I don't have all my pictures here! Smiley If you would like to just donate to the Rescue Mission, PLEASE go to their website: www.raleigh-rescue.org. I'm not sure if it's okay for me to post a picture of some of the kids here but if I can I will get my sister to post photos later tonight. Thank you!!

The offerings:
All new Embroidered Virgin Mary tote; app. 13" by 13" (but not quite square); Hand embroidered in black from my own modified Guadelupe pattern.

Sailor Jerry Style (But of my husband's creation) Death Moth-- Pink gingham all new mini tote with black handles; tan canvas bottom. Smaller size, the front/back measure 7.25 by 7.75; the sides and bottom measure 3" across. The straps are 12" long.

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Maneki Neko ("lucky cat") Swap? on: June 11, 2005 07:06:09 PM
Does anyone other than me adore maneki-neko (the lucky cat)? I would love to do a swap around this theme but wasn't sure of the interest. My craftster search didn't turn up a lot!
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Wristbands! Cherries, Gingham, BUGS- Using foam sheets! on: April 26, 2005 05:13:32 PM
I was inspired by this thread:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=20315.0

To make these:

Really easy::: Foam sheets cut to size, wrapped in fabric, sewn (on a machine of course)- some stitched straight and some stitched zig zag for decorative effect-- snaps from wal mart, set of 8 with a tool for $2.50! Smiley  Any rough edges on fabric covered by folding and ironing. I don't recommend ironing the foam. Smiley

Off to make more... Smiley
9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Earring Crazy: Plastic Stars, Dominoes, Jesus and the Virgin Mary... on: April 10, 2005 03:15:10 PM
Went earring crazy today- All of these are super simple designs but I think they came out very well.

Blue and pastel star beads from the Dollar Tree on head pins:

Same style, different color:

Dominoes, from a super cheap set I got at AC Moore that makes two pairs like this... Very easy!

Jesus and the Virgin Mary, charms on dangles:

Little plastic cherry post earrings:

Now to figure out how I want to sell them... Ebay or try to consign??  Huh
10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / My Sublime Skull and Cherries Bag on: April 10, 2005 03:06:07 PM
Used one of the older SS designs (Jenny Hart, did you know your company's initials are the same as the evil Nazi police???    Cheesy)-- Black skull with dots and asteriks added, dark red, dark brown, dark green cherries. The white twill I embroidered on was great, it didn't pull like some of the fabrics I had been using so it was a nice break. I hate difficult fabrics!!!  Roll Eyes
Straps are red and white grosgrain, lining is black twill, bottom and back are black cotton with a cute cherries print (got it at Ben Franklin Crafts).

I just made myself a purse last weekend so this one will end up on Ebay on Friday.  Smiley
