5121  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: a general first-sweater knitalong? on: September 12, 2006 09:35:09 AM
I'll be starting my first sweater any time now.  I want to make the Skully sweater from stitch n bitch for my husband.  He loves pirates and he's been begging me to make him a sweater for years.  I just learned to knit 3 weeks ago, (i also crochet, but I generally hate the look of crocheted men's sweaters) so it might take a while.  I have a couple of other things to finish first, but I want to have the sweater done for x-mas. (fingers crossed.)

5123  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: Ferragamo Bag on: April 03, 2006 02:02:28 PM
hey guys,
I was just looking through these posts, and if anyone still needs info on how to make the bobble stitch, there is a good bit in the Happy Hooker book on page 58 (hardcover).  I don't even know if anyone is still trying for this bag, but the stitch is still nice...
5124  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: I know it's been done to death. But wedding present ideas? on: April 03, 2006 01:35:36 PM
i don't know if the wedding is past yet, but if you know them really well, and you knit, you could make them little knitted dolls of them...you could make them wearing chefs hats, and he could have an aerosmith t-shirt or something...she could have a hello kitty-style head.....

One of my husband's friends who is a painter stole one of our snapshots and made an awesome painting of it for our wedding, and it is still our favorite thing.

it made us feel ultra-marriedy right away...
5125  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: Gift for someone who'll be backpacking south america? on: April 03, 2006 01:03:28 PM
this might sound dumb, but if he's going to be backpacking in the middle of no where for a long time, a nice gift might be something to remind him of home, and his best friend....just a little trinket.....it gets very quiet and somewhat lonely in the wilderness at night.....

just be sure that it is almost wieghtless...

maybe something cute to clip to his backpack, or a patch from your hometown that he could sew or pin on....

I backpack a lot, and those are things I would appreciate, at least....
5126  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Felted Mittens from Recyled Sweater - Ridiculously easy!!! TUTORIAL on: March 31, 2006 12:34:23 AM
i like to make my sweater-sleeve-legwarmers and wear them upside down, so that the wrist ribbing is just below the knee...this holds the legwarmer up and makes a neat bootcut/spat style legwarmer

anyway...
