1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / An Orange Creamcicle and Zebras on: April 04, 2006 06:01:24 PM

Handspun yarn. Wool, silk and mohair -- an undetermined amount of each in all three skeins. The silk is what gives the 'wet' sheen.

The Orange Creamcicle is 106 yards thick-and-thin 2-ply. The Zebras, together, total 181 yards thick-and-thin 2-ply (larger is 106, smaller is 75).

All yarn is spun and plied on the drop spindle you see at the very top -- it was constructed from scraps found in the sculpture studio by my friend Chris. The whorl (round bit at the bottom) was a bit of scrap wood left over from a project, sanded and balanced. The dowel is actually a rod from the back of a rocking chair and the hook was made from a piece of metal rod lying about.

Anyone have a nifty word, phrase or item that can be made into my next skein?

(that's the only close up I have -- sorry -- they've each been shipped to their new owners this afternoon)

Top: Acrylic knitted stockinette in brown with a beige-y/orange blue faced leicester wool needle felted onto the face of the stockinette and then reinforced with a blanket stitch around the edges. Prompted by the LJ interest 'feeding giraffes' -- for LJ user almostyou.

Bottom left: Acrylic in knitted Turkish stitch with a crocheted chain in darker blue. Tried for 'corset' -- for LJ user gtteknochik.

Bottom right: Acrylic, knitted. Prompted by 'Dr Pepper' (of course) -- replacement November square for LJ user stephc.  Dr Pepper belongs to *INSERT APPROPRIATE SODA COMPANY HERE*.
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / First post -- 8"x8" Gryffindor afghan square on: January 19, 2006 07:30:00 PM

Not the best of pictures but still!  100% acrylic, semi-three dimensional crocheted 8"x8" afghan square that I made for a trade.  Go go Gryffindor! Cheesy

And hello everyone!  I hope to make myself at home here very soon.

xStellie

EDIT:  I am happy to announce that I will be making a pattern for use as an 8x8 inch afghan square - definitely one for crochet but I'm not sure if I'll dabble with one for knitting.

Please be patient with me as there are TONS of people asking for patterns and I've got a bazillion other projects on my hands at the moment (a Dr. Pepper 8x8, a corset 8x8 and an argyle 8x8 -- I'll have another two 8x8s in que for February trading and I'm doing a secretpal exchange on livejournal -- plus I'm doing a sweater project for the Knitting Olympics!)

Busy busy!  Pleasepleaseplease be patient -- good things come to those who wait Smiley
