5421  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Ongoing Wish Swap 12 Gallery on: September 06, 2006 02:15:41 PM
Yesterday I received 4 wonderful, bright crochet squares from Obsessed.

The picture doesn't do them justice - they are much brighter in 'real life.'

Thanks! Obsessed, they are a great addition to my afghan.

Well, now I know one of my guesses on my chart was wrong - I had catpants crafting for someone else.  Oh well......

I received my 3rd package from my secret FOC today.  A pretty journal!

Love the color!  Thanks so much!

Just to let you know that I will be on holidays from the 7th - 17th so don't panic if you don't hear about the last package arriving.  If it's here when I get back, I will let you know asap  Smiley

Those toe socks are interesting and not what I expected to see.  I'm on dial up and sometimes it takes foooooorever to download a picture and so while waiting to see it, I was trying to guess what all colors were on them (I was thinking of the socks that have individual toes on them) but then these appeared.  Can someone explain them to me?  I just don't get the concept - are they for flip flops or what?

Great choices again this month!  And, again, crazy_bc_jen, you have made my decision very easy!

I love the quilterscache site and, as you can probably tell, I have made many of the 12" blocks but not the Leaves and Diamonds so that's the one I am making this month.

I've made an entire quilt out of the Maple Leaf block (minus the stem) - you can see it here:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=76857.0
and so I don't want to make it for this quilt but can't wait to see other people's versions.

I claim ooak_diva for:

7. Kitchen items like dishtowels, potholders, handtowels, etc.....Black and White Theme...I also like stripes and polkadots

This is my first claim.

I'm in Alberta, Canada.

Sewing

A large tote bag - with a zipper would be great but not necessary.  Nice and bright!!!!

A tablecloth (I'll PM you the size) with a snowflake or sunflower themed fabric.

I'd love a plush teddy bear - around 12" would be great!

A knitting apron like this:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/msg971894 but with different fabric.

Quilting

12” squares for a craftster quilt - I like pretty rather than creepy - any colors or patterns are fine but if you need ideas, check out this website:  http://www.quilterscache.com/BlocksbySizeC.html

Cross-stitch

A teapot picture with the teapot measuring about 3" x 3" and the Aida cloth at least 6" x 6" so I can frame it to match the few others I have.  (I can supply the pattern)

Crochet

12" squares - nice bright colors and any pattern is great

Eeyore, Pooh or Tigger crocheted in thread - I already have Piglet and he's getting lonely for his friends.  (I can supply the pattern)

If you want to throw in an extra with any of the above wishes, I'm looking for pens with cool, wacky designs on them.  The more outlandish they are, the less likely someone is to steal them when I work!

So. Instead of doing a traditional quilt pattern, I came up with the idea of taking the basepair sequence (the sequence of a's, t's, c's, and g's) and representing them with squares made of different colors in different orientations. So this quilt represents 900 basepairs of Agrobacterium vitis' NADP-me gene.

That sounds totally confusing and I don't understand a word of it but it sure made for a wonderful quilt!

You did a great job and I'm sure the recipient will love it and understand what it means  Grin

Great job on this colorful quilt!

I like the fact that you included something for his Mom and Dad - but I wonder, will he like a girls face on it when he's 9 or 10  Grin

That's a fantastic quilt!

It's the 3rd one of this kind I've seen on Craftster and was so inspired by the other 2 that I went and bought the book - now I just have to get to work on the quilt and maybe some day I, too, will get to post the finished project.
5430  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: September 2006 Birthday Month Swap on: September 02, 2006 07:23:34 AM
Hi!  My name is Cindy and my birthday is September 11 (and, no, it's not the worst day in the world to have a birthday despite the fact that so many people have told me that.  I am actually starting to dread telling people when my birthday is because of their reactions but I had many birthdays before that now infamous 9/11 so, even though something tragic did happen, I still celebrate my birthday!)

I live in Alberta, Canada, and, for the most part am a stay at home Mom and love it!  I have a casual job I started this summer at a bank.  I like to crochet, sew, quilt, tole paint and do some cross stitch.

Here's my birthday wish list:

Bright cotton fabrics - at least FQs  Thanks BklynGal

A large tote bag - with a zipper would be great but not necessary.  Nice and bright!!!!

A fabric carrier for a 9x13 cake pan (the kind with handles).

I'd love a plush, homemade, teddy bear - around 12" would be great!

12” squares for a craftster quilt - I like pretty rather than creepy - any colors or patterns are fine but if you need ideas, check out this website:  http://www.quilterscache.com/BlocksbySizeC.html    Thanks AliBeachGrl  I haven't crossed this out because it's an ongoing project and I'd like more  Grin

12" crochet squares - nice bright colors and any pattern is great  Thanks BklynGal

Eeyore, Pooh or Tigger crocheted in thread - I already have Piglet and he's getting lonely for his friends.  (I can supply the pattern)

Knit Dishcloths  Thanks Brihene!

Pens - with wild and funky colors and designs on the outside!  I had a fantastic one I received in another swap but it broke.  I love using them at my casual job where people tend to ‘borrow’ pens and not return them and I figured they would be less likely to take mine if it was unusual because I could easily find it on their desk!    Thanks Brihene!

Candy - I love trying candy from different parts of the world, so if you want to send me some, I’d be very thankful.  No chocolate, though, as I am allergic to it.  I really like salted dutch licorice, licorice chalk and chewy, sour candy.  Thanks BklynGal and Brihene

Last, but not least, hot sauce (the hotter, the better!)  My hubby and I both have September birthdays and he collects hot sauce (3 to 5 oz. bottles) and so I thought it would be fun to have something on this list for him to.

A surprise
